At least he's toned it down this time from "racists" to "rednecks". You guys need to keep the microphones out of his face.

Is there something wrong in using the term "redneck" to describe a racist southerner?

Not all rednecks are racist. There are redneck democrats even right here in Houston. I grew up in Southwest Houston but moved to New york in a predominantly jewish italian Neighborhood. I met more Italians who hated blacks and talked uglier about them than almost anyone I met in Houston. I will acknowledge some people hide it here better but there is no denying you don't have to be a redneck to be a racist. And I know for a fact you can vote for McCain and not be one.

Ok, that makes sense. I think the OP took exception at Murtha's use of the term "redneck," but I take it you have no problem with the term?

There are two types of "rednecks": the non-racist ones (which maybe are the vast majority as you say), and the racist ones. I can understand someone taking offense if you call the non-racist ones rednecks. But I don't see a big problem in calling the ones who're overtly racist redneck. It sounded to me like those were the ones Murtha was referring to.

Murtha is such a tool. You should have heard the Boo Birds today at the McCain rally whenever he touched on this subject.

But McCain said he couldn't agree with Murtha more:

Yeah, he did mess that one up. I was there. Everybody pretty much looked at each other for a second but knew what he meant. He definitely made his feelings clear shortly thereafter.
