I was born in 1991, so when I really started watching basketball I was a Jordan/Bulls fan, plus I lived in Chicago, so they were my hometown team. I don't remember Vernon Maxwell, so I chose the second option. I love Eazy-E and N.W.A., and would rather listen to them over any rapper on the radio today, and this is coming from a huge Nirvana/Queen fan!

I still bring out the Mad Max jersey to a few games each year. Sounds like Aaron is the next Mad Max minus the championship.

Nice! They don't have groups like NWA anymore and they don't have players like Vernon Maxwell anymore either.

He was well known for his defense, streak shooting and clutch shots. Even Michael Jordan acknowledged his defense.

I'm assuming you also listened to Ice Cube's earlier music as well as Dre, Tupac, Snoop Dog too. You could feel the emotion and the realness of the music.

Maxwell loved 90s hip hop and he also loved the regular people. He even ate at Lubys.

Had we gotten the younger pre-suspension Ron Artest and actually kept him. He would be a poor man's Mad Max moreso than Aaron Brooks.

A photo of the man in a Sonics jersey, that's just wrong!

I thought they would be talking about him in reference to the AB situation.

Nice to see something positive about him, that 30pts in a quarter is crazy but his wasn't that spectacular cause Max had it in him to do that on any given night. He just attacked the basket and got a lot of three point plays out of it, though he made some crazy shots from crazy angles.

Dude, Vernon showed up to practice in a hat with a bullet hole that he was wearing the night before while he was gambling in the third ward. He punched fans. He smelled like booze while crushing opponents in games. He cursed out Avery Johnson for saying "god bless" during warmups. Vernon Maxwell is the Michael Jordan of envelope-pushing behavior while playing NBA basketball. Better yet, Vernon Maxwell is the Vernon Maxwell of envelope-pushing behavior while playing NBA basketball.

"Mr Brooks. I knew Vernon Maxwell, Vernon Maxwell was a friend of mine. Mr Brooks, you're no Vernon Maxwell."

I heard he threw a 45 lbs. steel plate weight at Gary Payton like it was a frisbee. Nearly decapitated him...

You've got to be kidding me right ?

I like what they said that he came in with cheese burgers and wouldn't work out during the summer and beat everyone. Can you imagine Vernon having the work ethic and drive that MJ had ? If only.... in a way Mad Max was a waste of pure talent.

Mad Max turned Choke City into Clutch City. He shut down Starks and scored 21 pts in game 7 of the NBA Finals. He gave you tangible and intangible production. He gave you offense and defense. He gave you clutch scoring. He didn't cost a lottery pick. He was acquired from the Spurs for cash considerations. His acquisition was the ultimate moneyball move.

Quick Edit: Here's an updated list of players who have scored the most points in one quarter in NBA history. Only 7 players have done it. Mad Max is in pretty elite company:

Players with Most Points Scored in One Quarter in NBA History

    1. George Gervin - 33 points

On April 9, 1978 George Gervin of the San Antonio Spurs scored 33 points in the second quarter vs the New Orleans Jazz. That is tied with Carmelo Anthony for the most points ever scored by one player in one quarter in NBA history.

Gervin had already poured in 20 points in the 1st quarter of that game as that was the last day of the 1978 season and he was in a tight battle with David Thompson for the NBA scoring title. Gervin scored 63 points in the game and won the first of his four NBA scoring titles.

    1. Carmelo Anthony - 33

On December 10, 2008 Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets scored 33 points in the 3rd quarter vs the Minnesota Timberwolves to tie with George Gervin for the highest point total in one quarter in NBA history.

Melo made 12 of the 15 shots he took in the quarter and scored 26 straight points for the Nuggets during the quarter who won the game 116-105 after trailing by 12 points at the half. Anthony would finish the game with 45 points.

    2. David Thompson - 32 points

On April 9, 1978 the last day of the season David Thompson poured in 32 points in the 1st quarter for the Denver Nuggets vs the Detroit Pistons. That is the 2nd highest point total for a player in one quarter in NBA history.

Thompson was locked in a battle with George Gervin for the NBA scoring title in 1978. He went on to score 21 more points in the 2nd quarter giving him 53 points for the half. He would end the game with 73 points which is the 4th highest point total in one game in NBA history. Despite all the points Thompson finished second in scoring to Gervin who is listed above.

    3. Wilt Chamberlain - 31 points

When Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in one of the most famous games in NBA history on March 2, 1962 for the Philadelphia Warriors in Hershey, Pennsylvania he scored 31 points in the 4th quarter to get him to 100 for the game. Wilt had scored 28 points in the 3rd quarter to get him within hailing distance of the 100 points.

    4. Kobe Bryant(notes) - 30 points twice

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers has twice scored 30 points in one quarter. On December 20, 2005 Kobe scored 30 points in the 3rd quarter against the Dallas Mavericks and finished the game with 62 total points. The next season on November 30, 2006 Kobe scored 30 again in the 3rd quarter vs the Utah Jazz and finished that game with 52 total points.

When Kobe had his 81 point game he scored 27 points in the 3rd quarter and 28 more points in the 4th quarter.

    4. Michael Jordan - 30 points

On November 26, 1988 Michael Jordan scored 30 points in the 4th quarter against the Denver Nuggets.

    4. Vernon Maxwell - 30 points

On January 26, 1991 Vernon Maxwell of the Houston Rockets scored 30 points in the 4th quarter against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Maxwell finished the game with 51 points.
