Nice!! He looks totally ready offensively. Hope he is ready defensively also, especially rebounding-wise. But in any case I think we have a better starting power forward than at least half of the other NBA teams.
remember these are his highlights... he didn't have a great game against Brazil. He had a tough time against Nene, Splitter and the double teams.
He showed off his hook shot in those highlights and he has a base line spin move similar to Yao. I've noticed that when he has the angle he likes to use glass, but it's nice to see he has the hook as well.
I think we'd be ecstatic if Scola was getting double teamed in the NBA, leaving Francis/James/Yao/Tmac/whoever wide open.
Well, everyone is asking him to dunk more and on the first clip, he throws it down HARD. Poster style.
As a matter of fact, from what I've seen so far, Scola has a lot of similarities to Yao - high BBIQ, average athleticism, good post moves, average rebounding, good passing, good mid range game, etc. Even though some posters like to compare him with Battier, I'd rather compare him with Yao, regardless of the 9 inches height difference. Can I say Scola is a homeless-man's Yao?
That's right about the double team. It they have to keep a body close to Scola, that means Yao will get one on one coverage. That would be awesome. If Scola rise to the level of demanding double them. It's all over because you can't double team Yao, TMac and Scola at the same time.
Also, being that Scola and Yao are too similar in their styles, I don't know if he can complement Yao well.
I'd like to think he could at least be an upper tier role player. I'm just hoping he's as good as / better than nocioni. if he's able to give us that at the pf spot. we're going to have a really good year.
i disagree that their styles are similar to the point that they won't compliment. yes they both operate in the post but scola is much more mobile than yao and plus he has the ability to put the ball on the floor and face people. further both are unselfish, great passers, and very intelligent and when the players have those traits then it's hard not to compliment each other. also, scola does not need to dominate the ball to be productive.
They complement each other in that they can switch up high and low post. They both have SWEET J's and good post moves.
The best part of that video is you can hear him calling for the ball back when he rolls out off that pick and pop. CONFIDENCE
can't wait till the season starts... (feeling of deja vu) let's hope tmac got a good dose of the Patterson smack during the off season. (and hope he improved his shooting %)
