So this man was seperated from his son for, I believe, twelve years and was reunited with the 18 year old on the live program. Well, as a means of protests for Italian fathers who lose access to their sons he attempts to pour benzene (see gasonline) on himself and light himself on fire. The host manages to take the match from his hand before this can happen and the man is rushed off stage.

So how did he lose his son, like a divorce? that sucks, but why would you light yourself on fire after being reunited? Why didn't he do that sooner?

I believe it was a divorce and the reason was that the show was live. The suicide would have a greater impact on live TV on a show about reuniting fathers and sons.

That was hilarious how everyone just sat down as normal a minute later. I wish kind of wishing we got to see some one on fire. Fire, Fire!

Pretty much. Dude's came home 13 years ago to find his apartment empty. His wife had bailed to Australia with his son.

I think it was staged. Everyone looked a little too calm. They were saying "sia tranquillo" which is basically chill. As they were sitting down, the son says "Non fare questo" which means don't do this. I'd've been freaking out a bit more than that if my father was about to self immolate on tv.
