Or, to add to the conversation, games you regret not playing sooner. For example, maybe you're just now finding out the joys of Street Fighter 2 or something like that. And then perhaps in a follow-up thread: Video Games You Regret Playing
most games i regret not playing i never got around to playing ever chronotrigger comes to mind all zelda games after zelda: ocarina of time (although im convinced this was the greatest video game of all time)
Aww jeez. Too many. All the Zelda games on N64. Earthbound. ICO (just bought). Rogue Galaxy (just bought). Kingdom Hearts (just bought). Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers: Charged, SSBB (No Wii). Alundra. Beyond Good & Evil. Breath of Fire (all of 'em). Wild Arms (all of 'em). Suikoden (all of e'm). Fallout (both of 'em). Grim Fandango. Hokuto No Ken (no Japanese PS2... yet). Mercenaries. Shin Megami Tensei (all of 'em). Star Ocean (all of 'em). Tales of Legendia. Syberia. Dammit. I need to stop having a life so I don't miss all these great games. One game I took a long time to play was Def Jam: Fight for New York. Wow. Great game. Shame I didn't pick it up sooner. Ditto on the Guilty Gear X games, Xenogears, and X-Com. ...so where's your list, RC?
I'm irritated that I can't finish my Bond game, which is the best video game ever, IMO. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Q28RrHLikg&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4Q28RrHLikg&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Probably either CoH or CoV, but I don't want to get sucked back into the world of MMORPGs after kicking WoW, so I am not going to try them.
I played CoH in the first year and it was ADDICTING AS HELL. Stay away if you really don't want to get hooked again. As for me... FF VII (didn't have a PSX when it came out...played it a little at friend's houses) Chronotrigger Halo (not that I like the series...because I don't...but I did feel left out because all my friends were obsessed with the multiplayer) Can't think of any others, but there are a lot more for sure.
Good topic. I didnt get spoiled with video games when I was young like seemingly every other kid in school did I finally got over the regret a couple years ago, cuz the list had gotten so long with games not played it catching up was pointless and it didnt matter anymore. Also getting older and having less time helped get to that conclusion... So many rental games I regret not FINISHING hard to remember them all: - Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine - 007 The World is Not Enough (still have a TWINE saved game in a memory card somewhere ) - Turok Dinosaur Hunter Good old N64 days. Easy to feel satisfied with that system cuz it didnt have many games for it and it was easy to figure out the good ones Still wish I'da picked up more Star Wars based games for that and other systems, and some side scroller beat em up button mashers like Bad Dudes or something Also Prince of Persia and Ninja Gaiden seemed like games I'd enjoy. The game industry has accelerated past my level though....so its doubtful I'll put time and effort into it again like the "old days"
This one's hard to believe, but I've never played God of War. I just started playing Chains of Olympus on the PSP, and I'm HOOKED. I just wished that I played the first and second ones on the ps2. Luckily, the one on the psp is a prequel. I can't wait til God of War 3 comes out on the PS3; high expectations all around, graphics and gameplay. Speaking of which... Does anyone know where I could find a 60GB or 80GB PS3 in Houston? I know in other parts of the country, K-Mart is known to have 60GB systems every once in a while. I know they're discontinued, but I'm sure there are some out there in Houston. If I can't find one, I'll just have to wait for that MGS bundle in June
Panzer Dragoon. The few xbox games I was interested in. Whichever games of the 2(or 3, I dunno) current gen consoles I don't end up getting. Other than that, eh, the vast majority of old games that I want to play and haven't I'll either get around to, or I'm not THAT interested in.
I stay up on new console video games for the most part. I love Legend of Zelda and Wind Waker (I said it, Wind Waker, not Ocarina of Time) was my favorite one ever. I got a Wii and played the Twilight Princess and did not like the Wii controls. I ended up selling my Wii to my sister who would get more use out of it since I work a lot. I wish I would have had more time to play and beat it. I hit a slow part and took a break and never really came back to it. This is getting to be the same way with the new Devil May Cry. I hot a slow part right after getting Dante and I don't find myself yearning to play it more. It is not nearly as good as DMC3. The video game equivalent o crack is COD4. Best game in years. I havent played this much video games since MK2.
Have you played Devil May Cry 3? I find it far superior to any of the God of War games, which seem repetitive to me. Ah yes, that reminds me: Panzer Dragoon Saga (like pretty much everyone else here whether they know it or not... damn that game and its being impossible to find-ness).
we can put on the scientific pants, and walk down that road, or...... blizzard made the game, they have billion dollar psychologists to make the game addicting
Gameplay-wise, GoW is pretty repetitive. Basically just keep mashing buttons until you kill all the baddies (maybe different on the harder difficulties though). They do a good job of making the combat feel "visceral," but there's only so much there. That said, I'm a sucker for Greek mythology, and the excellent presentation values (among other things) make GoW a favorite in my book. Of course, I guess it helps that the games aren't very long, so it isn't like you're mashing buttons for 30 hours (or whatever). I actually haven't played the DMC games though. They were going to be on the list for sure, but I started getting 2nd thoughts after playing the DMC4 demo. Not that it was bad, but I just wasn't sure if it was for me (somewhat similar to why I decided not to go after Ninja Gaiden Sigma). Almost forgot about them. I only played Gothic 2, which I enjoyed. Has anyone played Gothic 3? Their games are usually really buggy from what I understand, although hopefully they fix them after the initial release. Could certainly be a game I'd regret not playing in that case.... Other games I regret not playing: Persona 3 and some other SMT games (maybe not all of them though). Of course with FES, I'm probably OK with not picking up Persona 3 when it was released. Okami Ico. I own it and technically have played it, but I can't seem to get far into the game before quitting (normally not due to a fault of the game though). Until I beat it and move on, I'll continue to regret not playing SOTC as well. Shenmue Baldur's Gate Fallout 1 and 2 The 2nd and 3rd Gabriel Knight games (forgot what they were called). Psychonauts Panzer Dragoon Orta. Played a bit of the first two games IIIRC, and I wanted to play Orta at some point. Guess you could include Saga as well, although I think I'd regret paying $200 for a ~15 hour game, no matter how good it is. Surpreme Commander. Another game I own and have played some of but not nearly enough. It just seems to require a lot of focus and time, which I can't quite dedicate to it right now. Legacy of Kain series Zone of the Enders 1 and 2 (more so 2 I think) Possibly Disgaea 2 and some other Nippon Ichi games, although not as big of a deal as some of the others I think. I had RE4 here, but after watching some of the cutscenes on Youtube...not sure I'm regretting it so much anymore (probably should still play it at some point). Maybe I shouldn't have said that... Games I regret not playing sooner: Beyond Good and Evil Persona 2 (and maybe P1 to a degree) Chrono Cross Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. I started getting into both of these series at about the same time (2005-ish). Both ended up as 2 of my favorites franchises. Funny thing was that I was aware of the games since I'd watch a friend play them when they initially came out (I'd help him figure out some of the SH puzzles), but I didn't really get into them until much later. As usual, I'm probably forgetting many others as well.
I don't know. It sure as hell isn't appealing to me, yet I've seen several lives ruined because of it.
