Each service has been out for at least 5-6 months, and they each have some nice offerings. Given the push to downloadable delivery, I thought it would be interesting to see what you guys were purchasing from these services, or whether any of you have been ignoring them altogether. I'm mostly referring to downloadable games, but you guys can include other microtransactions if you want (something like additional map packs, or even the downloadable movies and TV shows via the XBLM).

Also, since I don't think we talk a lot about these games, feel free to recommend and give praise to anything you really enjoyed. That way, others reading the thread might give these games a try too; since some of them were done by small, independent developers, the extra word-of-mouth can really help them out.

    From VC I have bought:

    Super Mario Bros.
    Super Mario 64
    Sonic
    Ice Hockey
    Tecmo Bowl

I think maybe one more, but I don't remember. I even have a disc of all the NES games on my Dreamcast, but I like playing the Wii better.

I have had the 360 since launch, and the first thing I have bought from xbox live was earlier this week, the original teenage mutant ninja turtles arcade game, and it's awesome. I usually use it just for free demos and stuff, but this was well worth the $6-7 I just paid.

I downloaded one of those South Park Episodes in HD. It was crazy, I didn't think HD would have any effect on cartoons, but it does.

Does the VC emulation utilize save states? Those are damn near a requirement to get through some of those old NES cheapfests.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and flOw. Tekken is just an arcade port, but it looks great for a downloaded game. flOw is ok. It shows off the motion controls pretty well and is a great PS3 introduction for people who haven't seen it. I would have liked to seen the Wii version of it.

I heard it was cheaper to buy 1600 points for $20 at Best Buy rather than purchasing them online. So I went with the card at Best Buy

You think the biggest software company in the world is going to commit credit fraud against you? Don't you think that would be kind of stupid of them?

 come on, use your brain. of course the entity of microsoft itself is not going to commit fraud. you've never heard of company employees stealing cc #'s or selling them before? and yes, there have been people who have been frauded by entering their cc to purchase xbl points/xbl gold subscriptions.

I bought mario64 off virtual console, I'm going to get punchout whenever it comes out. I've been eyeing mario allstars and tecmo bowl. I'm really interested in the ninja turtles game when it comes out.

They do -- you obviously don't have saved games, but if you are playing a game and then you quit to do something else, the game will pick up where you left off when you return.

There is one downside though -- the persistant state is a bit too persistant. In Super Mario Bros., after you beat the game, it changes many of the koopas to those dudes in the shiny black shell. With the NES, you could just reset and it'll be back to the koopas and what not. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the VC -- if you tell it to "reset", it doesn't change back to Koopas. That sort of bothers me, but I have an original NES too, so if I want to play it in the regular form, I can just play that.
