This has been a story that has been building over the last few weeks/months.

Basically, Rockstar now has "disdain" for Team Bondi, the developers behind LA Noire. This seems in part due to the horrible working conditions at Team Bondi (e.g., 100+ hour work weeks with no overtime). Although I think this may have more to do with the fact that Rockstar ended up sinking a lot of time and money into the project, and it likely would not have been nearly as successful without their great marketing (but much easier to blame "bad working conditions" from a PR standpoint). The Red Dead Redemption team (Rockstar San Diego) didn't exactly get treated well either IIRC, even by normal standards within the industry (which are pretty poor to begin with). Though management at Team Bondi did seem to raise (or...um...lower) the bar even more.

Here's a link to report with some of the latest details:

Good. LA Noir sucked. It is the only game I have ever not finished, I put it down half way through disc 2.

I liked LA Noir, it offered a nice twist to a genre saturated with shooters.
Need to increase the replay value though.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game for the first hour or so, and then once I realized that every single case unfolded in the exact same manner (look for clues at the scene, show up at 3-4 different locations and ask questions, followed by an action scene -- either chasing a guy on foot or in the car every time...), I sold the game back to Best Buy for $30.

It was ridiculously repetitive and it got painful trying to grind through that boring, drawn out story line.

I loved LA Noire. It was better than Dragon Age, and the most enjoyable game I've played this year.

It was absolutely great story telling, and I loved the challenge, and way the game created the mood. The recreation of 1940's LA was sensational, and very impressive.

I'm sorry that the relationship between Team Bondi and Rockstar wasn't good, and I hate to think that Team Bondi created those conditions. I was really looking forward to the sequel. It was an amazing game, and something that different and original should be rewarded.

the game was essentially a tech demo for the realistic facial expressions..

the game LOOKED nice, but yeah it could have had more content and stuff.

the next one is supposed to do live motion capture for entire player models, and im hoping for a deeper game...

    What next one?

If this news is any indication, there likely won't be a next one. Though I guess maybe Rockstar could make it (especially if they practically did that with the first one). They should own the IP, and plenty of other stuff. Not sure if they want to pursue the same route in technology though.

Not like this is the first time a publisher has dropped Team Bondi after sinking a ton of money into them either. I suppose they could find another publisher, but guessing it won't be easy.
