NPD numbers via NeoGAF: If any other interesting numbers are mentioned, I probably won't post them until this weekend (if at all) since I'll be pretty busy in the next 24 hours or so with some schoolwork.

Everything above Crackdown in the first chart sold at least that much as well. Apparently Zelda did ~85K and Wario Ware did 77K, so there's a few more numbers to work with. I'm about to start skimming through the ~1300 posts at NeoGAF concerning the sales figures for March to see if there was any other interesting info. FWIW, the big 3 have replied to these results already. Sony is still saying the PS3 is supply constrained, which I guess is only true of the 20GB PS3. I kind of enjoy reading how they try to make out these results as something positive, particularly when it comes to the PS3 numbers (EX: PS3 numbers higher than last month...although they don't mention that weekly sales are down).
wow am I reading this right? x360 is beating PS3? incroyable. RC if you have time can you tell me what the total sales of Gears of War are? Im guessing 600-800k.
Gears of War sold over a million copies in just a few weeks. If I added up the numbers from the past few threads correctly, it should be around 2M-2.5M. This is just in the US of course. I think it sold pretty well in Europe as well, and it even sold decently in Japan considering it is a shooter on the 360 (sold out in some stores IIRC). Maybe around 3M+ for the world? The 360 has sold more than the PS3 every month IIRC (in the US). I think it has actually sold twice as many units since the PS3 was released, most of that coming from the November and December sales. Both of them could use a price cut or something like that to increase hardware sales though (<200K sales in a month isn't very good, especially during a 5-week month). Of course, one system has been out for a year and half while the other one has barely been out for 6 months.
Part (or most?) of that has to do with the fact that the game comes with a controller. A lot of people consider it as a controller with a $10 game, so people with Wiis that want an extra controller would probably get that rather than just a extra controller w/o a game (if they can even find them). For $10, it is probably somewhat enjoyable at the very least. There might be more to it than that, although I don't know for sure what since I've yet to play it nor have I really followed the game. Reviews haven't been all that great, but several Wii games got sub-par reviews and sold well.
You know now that you say that my memory is jogged, IIRC Gears had something like 1mil preorders. I just totally forgot about it as I haven't played games or followed sales much recently. Still just the shock of Sony managing to not clean up like everybody expected is a big deal at least to me. It's almost like the PS2 was TOO successful, as crazy as that might seem.
Motor Storm is selling very well considering the PS3 has such a small market share in the hardware department.
Yeah, the PS3 is selling considerably less than I (and probably most) thought it would at this point, particularly given the great supply. Prior to the PS3's launch, I didn't expect great sales at this point since I didn't expect Sony to ship systems like they have. 360 numbers last year at this time weren't that great either due to low shipments, and Sony got off to a worst start than MS. I thought Sony could get to the 6 month mark before things started getting worrisome in regards to the price negatively affecting sales. It was more like half that, if not less. I've said this before, but the only thing that can get the PS3 back on the right track is a pretty significant price cut ASAP. Things are even worse in Japan if you can believe that, and the PS3 is even cheaper over there (~$450 IIRC? I don't remember). They did have a solid launch in Europe recently (~800K sold by now, more than they've sold in Japan since launch IIRC), but I'm sure sales there will start to mirror the US if they haven't already. It sold OK. I don't know...in some ways, it did sell very well, especially considering the things you mentioned. But then again, I believe GRAW and Oblivion sold ~400K each for the 360 last year with about the same userbase. 360 software sales have been awesome though, so maybe I shouldn't try to compare them. It seems like it sold well in Europe, and I recall the Japanese version selling OK when it came out in Japan. Speaking of Oblivion, I'm kind of bummed out that only ~75K copies were sold for the PS3 version.
Dude... can't you just have a "monthly sales" thread and revive it every month? jk, man, I know you're good.
if the PS3 was $399, I'd snap it up in a second. Iwas one of the people who bout a PS2 at launch for $300+ also I think.
That's not a bad idea though. I didn't do it originally since I usually liked to put some info in the thread about the month (EX:"God of War 2 leads March Sales"), but since I don't do that anymore, I might as well do that. If I remember, I'll try to do that for April sales. I guess I could also add some sales from Japan, Europe, and other regions, although I don't really follow them as well as NPD numbers (at least with school going on right now). Same here. I'm hoping that if Sony is too stubborn to drop the price this year, maybe some retailers will put out some good deals like they did for the 360 last year. US retailers that is...seems like every other region has already had some great deals for getting a PS3 except US retailers.
Wow, the PS2 is still going strong! I'm starting to think about getting a 360. I'm only interested in the next GTA game and Halo 3 and its going to have both of them.
That's pretty much all of it. The games are ok, but not nearly as fun as Wii Sports. Its value is the controller and that's about it.
