If you have a Nintendo DS or a PSP, you have to get this game. In a nutshell, it's a puzzle/rpg hybrid. You control a hero that you level up, but instead of battles, you play bejewled. Sound's weird, right? Well, it works, completely. You can download and play the demo from HERE. (direct link here) It's been a while since a game has completely sucked me in like this game. Man is it addicting. And appparently other folks think so too, because it's the #1 DS game right now and the #3 PSP. Here are some quotes from various game sites (pulled from Puzzle Quest's site):
I was thinking about buying it, but I dunno. Do you have it for the DS or PSP? Can you go into further detail about the game?
I have the PSP version. I assume it's the same on both. It's your standard world-view Strategy RPG. You create a hero in one of four different classes, Knight, Warrior, Druid, Sorcerer (not sure on the last one). Each one excells at different things. You wander around and get quests from different towns, like rescue the prince from the ogres. You go to the designated spot on the map and begin the battle, but instead of fighting, you play a game of bejewled. You and your oponent take turns. There are different tiles in the game, such as red, blue, green and yellow mana. You match 3 of these and they fuel your mana. Different spells requre different mana. There are offensive and defensive spells, healing and buffing and debuffing. A big range. There are also skull tilesets that cause damage to your enemy. In addition there are gold and exp. tilesets as well. It's pretty deep, and any of the linked reviews can explain it better. You also have equipment like swords or armor that boost your damage or mitigate it, and magic equipment that gives you bonuses. In RPG terms, it's pretty rewarding. You can also build up your town with dungeons where you keep captured enemies so you can learn their spells. You can build stables that you use to house captured mounts (my guy is riding a giant rat). These mounts give you a stat bonus and maybe an extra spell. You can even seige and capture other towns on the map and gain their income. Early on you also get party members that give you a bonus in battle like damage vs undead, etc. As you go along, more and more of the map is revealed, with side quests that aren't important. Again, this is a quick synopsis and the reviews go into the details.
