Hey all, I have a friend that is a programmer with lots of video game experience (other programming exp. as well), that needs a job. He's in the Dallas area, and would prefer to stay put, but would relocate for the right position. He's been doing some contract work, but would like something permanent. I can email you his resume if you have a real opportunity or know someone who does. Thanks, HOOP-T
I am not sure if he does or not, now that you mention it. If he does, he keeps it well hidden. He's a good guy....loyal and dedicated. No one would regret hiring him.
I personally don't know of anything really. I can't even think of many Texas-based developers at the moment besides iD. They are actually in Dallas IIRC, but I think they normally stick with the same small team mostly and don't look to hire people that often, if ever. And of course, there's DaDakota's company as well. Can't thinik of any other ones though, if there are any (think there are, just drawing a blank). I'm sure there are opening in a lot of dev studios, especially with so many platforms to develop for. If he wants a steady job, maybe he could somehow catch on with Epic Games. I think they need some programmers for their games and their engines (as soon as Unreal Engine 3.0 is done, they'll start on the next one pretty soon). He'd probably have to be pretty damn good to make it there though. And FWIW, I think they're based out of Raleigh, NC. I'm basically saying I don't have any idea on where he can find a job, especially in the Dallas/Texas area. I just did a quick search and found some site for game developers looking for jobs though. Not sure how good it is, but maybe he can check it out: http://www.gamesjobnews.com/index.asp There might be some other sites out there like that as well.
We are in Austin, and I know several that are hiring here....not mine presently but Midway, Sony, NCsoft to name a few. DD
There used to be a handful of gaming companies that had offices in the Dallas area, but of course, I can't remember any of them at the moment other than maybe Ensemble and I think Ritual Entertainment is in the Dallas area, too. Gearbox was already mentioned and Ion Storm went belly-up. I remember reading an article a few months ago that said Texas was one of the top 4 states in the nation for game developers/development. SMU even has courses specifically for game development.
