well i guess she isnt a practicing Hindu or isnt a Hindu anymore but kept her heavily Hindu influenced name...The sad thing is I can see a lot of Indian people getting upset over this I have seen her on that one cooking show but never saw anything else with her. She is a beautiful women but has this aura of being really uppity if you ask me
I loathe her. And when has she not been a sellout?!? Chick was a gold digger from birth. Here's what I wrote in my blog a year ago. OK. Gotta admit, I like the show, but what the hell is this bimbo "Padma" doing on there? She's never cooked a day in her life. It's tantamount to Paris Hilton hosting an acting competition. Here's what I'm pretty sure went down. (BTW, for those not in the know, the bimbo was married to Salmon Rushdie...) Padma: Hey Salmonella (her pet name for him) Salmon: What moron, I mean sweetie? Padma: I want a TV show! Salmon: You know I'm in hiding, dumbass. I've been this way since you knew me! Padma: But I waaaaaaant it! Gimme! Salmon: Crap! God, you do know how to annoy a man! I'll see what I can do... Padma: Yea me! Salmon: You realize it is on a primarily gay network, right? Padma: ahem... Lesbians... Salmon: Touche. Salmon: You realize you've never cooked anything in your life, right? Padma: Yea! I'm on TV now! Salmon: (cough)....... three years later.... Salmon: WTF!
Because Hinduism is the predominant religion of India and in it, cows are considered sacred. Some Hindus dont' eat meat, but almost all the ones who do abstain from Beef. It's even illegal to slaughter a cow in most parts of India. So if she ever was Hindu (I don't know anything about her), and she's now eating hamburgers on TV, that might anger some people.
Well she has had her own show on the Food Network, I remember watching it maybe 10 years ago. She's also had a few cookbooks out before Top Chef. But I've read that she makes the rounds w/ older, very wealthy New York socialite-type guys.
That is so true...except it is false. She wrote her first cookbook way before Top Chef (and it won awards) and also had a cooking show on Food TV before Top Chef. EDIT: oops, I missed professorjay's post. Sorry.
That is one thing about her that has fallen under scrutiny. She's been a model, and she is a very good looking woman that loves food. She is a huge improvement over Top Chef's original host. Fatty, Just because a woman is wealthy and beautiful, doesn't mean they are idiots like Paris Hilton.
i don't know if this commercial would necessarily anger indians, especially those in america. she frequently eats meat during top chef when she samples the contestants food, so her eating a hamburger is nothing new. plus many hindus still eat meat, especially in america, so this wouldn't be particularly offensive to them.
How come there isn't a Carl's Jr within 100 miles of Houston? They're franchises, you'd think someone would open a franchise location here. Who ever opens the first Carl's Jr in Houston should do well since it would be something new here.
All of the above people are idiots. Per Wikipedia, and IMDB, if she was on a show before Top Chef, it wasn't successful, and any of us can write a book about stuff we've eaten. Movies and television Lakshmi had a comical supporting role as the lip synching disco singer Sylk in the 2001 American movie Glitter with Mariah Carey. She co-starred with Amitabh Bachchan and Jackie Shroff in the 2003 Hindi action box office failure Boom as Shiela Bardez, one of a trio of super models accused of stealing diamonds.[16][17] Lakshmi was last seen on screen as Geeta with Aishwarya Rai and Dylan McDermott in Paul Mayeda Berges' 2005 film The Mistress of Spices. She will be starring[citation needed] in Deepa Mehta's upcoming film, Komagata Maru which was earlier titled Exclusion. Padma Lakshmi made a 2002 guest appearance as alien princess Kaitaama in Precious Cargo, the 37th episode of the science fiction TV series Star Trek: Enterprise. She was also hostess of Domenica In, Italy's top-rated television show.[citation needed] She portrayed Sean Bean's nemesis in the 2004-2005 iTV TV series Sharpe's Challenge. In 2006 Lakshmi appeared in ABC's TV series The Ten Commandments with Dougray Scott, Naveen Andrews, and Omar Sharif. She took over as hostess of the popular TV cooking competition series Top Chef in 2006 during its second season and has continued every season since then to its current fifth season. As for her "book" winning an award?
Padma annoys the hell out of me on Top Chef. She is there for eye candy and usually adds nothing to the discussion of the food. But she does change outfits a half dozen times per episode... Still she does look kinda hot eating that burger, but I have to say I have zero interest in eating that burger. On an unrelated note, it looks like a few former co-workers of my wife are going to be on Top Chef next season. I think it might be in Seattle too. They were in town for a huge casting call a month ago. Should make next season interesting, watching people we know.
I don't know anything about Padma before, but she is just a piece of juicy meat to me in this commercial.
her name is of hindu origin...and even though I am a Christian, it saddens me to see that she is abusing her fame for money... i seriously don't agree with two indians so far: Padma Lakshmi and Bobby Jindal... I'm okay w/ everyone else...
