[Video] DD's Rocket Talk 2009-10 Well Clutchfans, it is that time again, time for some pumpkin headed breakdowns on our favorite team. While we may not always agree on everything, I think we can all agree in our support of the world's best team - the Houston Rockets. So, sit back, enjoy, get the tomatoes out, and let em fly. DD's Rocket talk coming to a PC near you ! As per usual, please be kind....and yes....I need a diet. Glad to hear you admit Ariza is not a 2nd option. We're gonna miss Artest's leadership though.....on or off the reservation Edit: One more thing....winning 50-52 games?? DD, YOU are off your reservation. 40-45 tops and (sorry) no playoffs, unless McGrady comes back early AND strong (which has never happened the first year after a guy has microfracture), then maybe 48 with a possible playoff shot. Hopefully I will be the one eating crow on that
DD, thanks as always for that. I'm eager to see how this team comes together this year. Last year's run against the Lakers was nice to see - guys battling for each other and not for themselves, it was beautiful. I think we'll just have to live with AB growing into skin, so to speak, a la Sam Cassell. He'll have his ups and downs, but he's got to be the fuel that powers the Rockets on the offensive end. I think of him as our offensive coordinator and Sugar Shane as our defensive coordinator. Those two guys have to step up and be big time leaders for us to have a good year. Luis Scola, what can you say about our heist from San Antonio? The guy gets it in every sense of the word. You're absolutely correct in that it takes a special kind of player to move back and forth from focal point to complimentary piece. Scola's done this his entire career playing for Tau he was the star, but when he played with the Argentinean National Team, he took a backseat to Manu. Morey must've known this, and we've benefited from his versatility. I'm liking our rotation (for an Adelman-coached team) right now: Brooks, Battier, Hayes, Scola, Ariza, Landry, Lowry, Anderson, and Budinger will probably be the 9 that get the most run (with Dorsey/Pops filling in as needed). It'd be nice if Taylor could come in and be that athletic sparkplug, but I think we'll have to get used to seeing a smarter player on the court this year (Chase), and I'm fine with that. Ever since the Steve-and-Cat days, we've had to basketball IQ for athletic ability. I'm glad we've tried to make the switch back to having a smart team that plays hard. Buckle up, it won't always be pretty, but I think we're going to really have an identity this year that'll be fun to see come together. If McGrady comes back, buys into the system, and realizes he can contribute more by actually doing less (while giving maximum effort!), I think he can finally be that Clyde Drexler type piece to the Adelman offense. His commitment to the team and the cause is what'll determine how far this team goes in the second half.
I like the points you made about the incremental upgrades, Chase's off the ball movement (and Battier's lack of) and the value of running our systems with the Vipers. I was a little taken back by this comment though: "We've got new rookies this year for DD to get up and man up on."
It's always cool to see old people so fanatic about something cool like sports. I bet you make a cool dad.
Nice vid DD. Most of your player analyses were on point. Not sure if you were serious about VSpan - you're most likely poking fun at yourself right? Again, solid video, I can't wait to see the new look Rockets! I think we WILL need T-mac's contribution for us to make the playoffs this season, without him we won't produce enough points to win consistently. Without T-mac, the team is simply short on offensive talent, unless Scola, Landry, Lowry and Battier can up their culmulative points per game by ~20 and Chase Budinger puts up ROTY or ROTY contention stats.
DD, I have to hand it to you. That was excellent. Very, very solid take on the state of the Rockets before the start of the season. Yes, you are a bit frightening to look at, but by the 6 minute mark or so, I was getting over it. Again, great job. Kudos, my friend.
