I've never heard about this. Why doesn't this sort of thing played more in the press? This is absolutely ridiculous.

Since when did the police department become a F**KING sales department with monthly quotas?

Revenue. How else can we fund the vital social programs like the $7 million Tolerance Bridge?

That is the stupidest system I've ever heard of. It's on par with the NHS (national health service in the UK) refusing a grant to a medical centre because they failed to deal with complaints for a month. Only thing is, the centre didn't actually get any complaints, so there was nothing to deal with.

Also, doesn't that type of system pretty much preclude that there are going to be crimes? Its like saying 'Ok, this month there will be 420 drugs, 210 robberies and 105 homicides. Go find them!' What if there simply aren't any number of those crimes? Do the police have to make false arrests and make trumped up charges?

Most people can see that it's a stupid system. But very few can come up with alternative systems that are viable and implementable. Remember politics always get in the way too...

Um, how about for starters, a system where these quotas are irrelevant (or at least more directly linked to the actual array of crime in the area) and implementing an independent, oversight committee with REAL power to strip cops of their badges/consolation desk jobs reviewing the actions of police officers in question?

We don't even need cops for the majority of work they do. On the roads in TX at any given moment, there are thousands of officers just hiding, under the guise of trying to catch speeders. If they really wanted to end speeding, they don't need men, they just would put up cameras. No guesswork involved, no profiling.

The truth is that they aren't really looking for speeders. They are i) fishing for bigger fish among the most complete sample of the population and ii) reinforcing a culture of fear.

    Cameras > Cops with egos/agendas/prejudices.

In before the move to D&D.

If there are 100 incidents of alleged police misbehavior, I suggest that we have 100 threads about it. Police misconduct is serious, undermines the trust that citizens have in the police, and besmirches the name of good cops everywhere.

Now put up or shut up, punk.

Nobody said that the "entire law enforcement" was corrupt, just the morons in this particular incident.

And so does the GOP. Neither party is free from drug war propaganda.

I'm very liberal, but I do agree 100%. This is something we should all agree on.

Well, you've finally accepted that when it comes to D&D and TJ, rational debate fails.

There have been several cases of cameras "photocops" being used to automatically hand out tickets being ruled unconstitutional. Recently in Minnesota the use of cameras to ticket red light runners was ruled unconstitutional and everyone who got a ticket was given a settlement. The argument about that is unless you actually stop the car you can't verify who is actually driving the car when you ticket it.

    Too late.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say about this cop. I take it you think he planted drugs to meet his quota. Why does he let that action get recorded on video? He could go to prison for that.

Exactly, that's what I'm saying too. Cops have a motive to plant drugs- to meet their quotas. However, it appears that he knew he was being recorded...so maybe it's not so cut and dry...

What was the police officer doing with the bag of drugs on him in the first place? It's quite possible that he has pulled this stunt on innocent citizens more then once.

Did your post add anything to this discussion?

You're probably ok with this type of behavior by coppers. I wonder how you really are in real life but you are arguably the biggest douche on here. I've never sensed any positivity in any of your posts.
