i'm debating getting a video console for my daughter - age 9.... one thing i think she really likes is the "dance dance revolution" games you see at arcades. do any of the systems (ps3, gamecube, etc) have a game similar. i don't want to get her one that really feels as close to arcade as you possibly can at home...

    thanks in advance....

yeah get something interactive. either a wii, or what the other poster suggested.

you will save a lot of money on a ps2. but the wii may still be a better option. a lot of people think they are tons of fun, and they have a lot of games geared toward kids.

there is such a HUGE library of PS2 games that you can choose from for her. I would recommend it.

I would look on craigslist and get a modified ps2. That way you can play backed-up games.

I'd go for a Wii- we are bound to see tons of DDR-esque games come out for it. The Wii is a natural fit for DDR. And almost every game is a get-up-off-the-couch game. You will probably enjoy it too.

Another game daddy?!?! You spoil me! Good thing you're teaching me good morals by stealing everything you buy for me! Next time I'm in the store, I'm going to get a backup of some candy, just like daddy does!

so are there any Wii games like DDR yet? and also how much do PS2 games cost versus Wii games? (she's only 9 and i'm not sure her attention span is worth huge investment)

as far as getting off the couch and me enjoying it too, yes i thought of that. this may actually force me to burn a little more calories with the kids (watching netflix children's movies can be fun - i liked 'happy feet' and i don't care what other people think - but i'm not sure if sitting on my butt and eating popcorn will help me in the long run :p )

    ps2 or wii

the wii has a game coming out that is a a dancing game that will use a ton of motion. they also have guitar hero coming. If you are concerned about her being active, the wii is answer..no doubt.

the ps2 does have a huge library but im not sure how many games will actually be for her.

personally, i'd go wii. the family can play tennis, bowl, baseball...she'd love warioware and elebits too.

Don't get a PS2 for a 9 year old....get a Wii....as for catalogue it also plays all the game cube titles and there are a HECK of a lot more for kids on Nintendo than for Sony or Microsoft.

Get the Wii.......and there is a DDR style of game on there.

For a kid, I would get a PS2, which will be VERY inexpensive with the PS3 out. In addition, there are TONS of PS2 games and most of them are extremely inexpensive because the PS3 just released.
