    On Offense
    - a beast on the block, almost unstoppable when posting up guards
    - very aggressive going to the basket
    - nice turnaround jumpshot out to 18 ft
    - does not quit on the play, gets lots of rebounds and put backs
    - makes one fake, takes one bounce, and then goes up for the lay up
    - spurs had to double team wells on offense
    - kings should have went to him more often then they already did
    - bruce bowen could not do anything to stop bonzi

    On Defense
    - average perimeter defense
    - needs work on 3 pt defense
    - got blown by often (parker, finley, ginobili)
    - great rebounder, has a nose for the ball

    Overall
    - impressive post game
    - can't be stopped when posting up, commands double teams
    - spurs used bowen, finley, ginobili, and horry to defend wells with no luck
    - always seems to be around the ball, will definitely help on rebounding
    - definitely the 3rd scoring option the Rockets needed

"Bonzi Wells is just manhandling us." - Greg Popovich, Game 3

WOW. That guy is a BEAST inside. Reminds me of a guard version of Barkley.

I watched that series when it was on TV but I didn't pay as much individual attention to Bonzi. Now that this video lets me do that, I have a few comments about him...

    - he scored a bunch of points but I think there was only two jumpshots in that entire video. I love that.

    - he knows how to use his big (fat) body to gain an advantage under the basket, and he has great instincts (spins, headfakes, reverses) on the post.

    - there were no celebration antics after he made a nice play. he just turned around and got back on defense. Gotta appreciate that.

Thanks for the video, RAID. I assume you captured it yourself. By the way, it kinda gave me a basketball erection. :D

yeah, its strange I noticed that too. He carries himself pretty well on the court. Definetly doesn't act like a "knucklehead" or anything. I do wanna see some aggressiveness from him if our team becomes a little timid like they normally are. But I don't think anyone's gonna be knockin us around. ESPECIALLY mike james.

that's exactly what I was thinking too...seems like he plays taller because of longer arms/reach... :)

Guard version? Barkeley is probably about the same height as Wells.

Bonzi reminds me so much of how Jerry Stackhouse just abused the rockets two years ago in the playoffs. If he's willing to come off the bench, and take the Stackhouse type of role, he'll get his points and rebounds. And he wont have to share the ball nearly as much.

I think Bozi is better than Stack. Stack is probably a little bit more on the skill side, but I was impressed with Bozi's quickness and his strength. This guy is round and quick, like a shorter Barkley. Finishes well around the rim too. I am aslo for him to be the first to come off bench and finishes the game for us.

Me too. We settled for too many jumpshots last year, even when TMac was healthy.

Exactly. Whoever the other team's best perimeter defender is, he's going to have nightmares the night before he plays the Rockets because he's going to have to stick the perimeter and protect the post. If it's not Bonzi, it's Tracy. If it's not Tracy, it's Bonzi. That's hell on earth right there.

(and I just looked again...I think there's actually two jumpshots, but I think I got my point across :D )

people on spurstalk.com (or other spurs fans) claim that the spurs purposely allow Wells to go off on them and shut down everyone else because they know Wells himself cannot beat the entire spurs team alone

I don't think he's much shorter than Barkley. Actually, they're probably the same height.

Well gee, I guess if they shut down Yao, T-Mac and Bonzi simultaneously we ARE pretty screwed. :D

Notice where Brad Miller was on those clips. He's damn near the 3pt line sometimes! There's no way Bonzi will have that much space to operate with Yao on the floor, not to mention that Yao will be first option in the post. Even SAR and KT were at least eight feet away from the basket on the opposite baseline. We might have spacing problems.

That's why I like the idea of having Bonzi come off the bench, so he can go straight to work when Yao gets his first breather. And when they're in the game together, Bonzi will be the secondary post up guy playing on the opposite side of Yao. Good thing that they both appear to be able to set up on either side of the court.
