Should there be any doubt... really? Ali was a world class boxer and Wilt was a basketball player. I mean come on, if not for the reach factor, would anyone really hesitate?

thats true, Ali will probably deliver an assortment of punches to Wilt's waist

However, I think if Wilt had proper training for an extended period of time, he may be able to provide more of a competition

Isnt the current world champion some 7 foot russian guy who use to play bball?

Given Wilt's sheer size, strength, and reach...I really don't think there's any way Ali would've knocked him out.

That said, Ali was about as smart of a boxer as they come. Boxing isn't always about knocking your opponent out. Ali would've been too quick for Wilt, dancing around the ring and punching in flurries. He probably would've won in a unanimous decision.

Ali would have destroyed him. Ali would have hit him 5 times before Wilt could get off one punch.

Chamberlain was a monster. One punch from Wilt the Stilt would have decapitated Clay.

Right, that's why Primo Carnera was so good.

Yao has a better chance of hitting Floyd Mayweather. Which is to say - not much or none.

Last night I had a dream, When I got to Africa,
I had one hell of a rumble.
I had to beat Tarzan’s behind first,
For claiming to be King of the Jungle.
For this fight, I’ve wrestled with alligators,
    I’ve tustled with a whale.
    I done handcuffed lightning
    And put thunder in jail.
    You know I’m bad.
    I have murdered a rock,
I’ve injured a stone, and hospitalized a brick.
I’m so bad, I make medicine sick.
    I’m so fast, man,
I can run through a hurricane and don't get wet.
    When Wilt Chamberlain meets me,
    He’ll pay his debt.
I can drown the drink of water, and kill a dead tree.
Wait till you see Muhammad Ali.

Wilt wouldn't last 5 minutes in the ring with Ali. Not sure why people think that simple size and strength can overcome the tenacity of a professional fighter, much less the greatest ever.

I think Ali was the funniest, most eloquent, and most supremely confident athlete there ever has been. Even when he was an old fighter he believed he was the best. He never had any doubt. I admire that.

Do you just read the first line of every post and feel the overwhelming urge to post a kneejerk response? I've never seen a person misinterpret as many comments as you. Good God, why don't you take the extra 30 seconds to read everything a person has to say before responding. I believe the words "Ali would've been too quick for Wilt" were in my post somewhere.

There's a reason why a huge guy like Nikolai Valuev has never even gotten close to getting knocked out. It's really hard to get any leverage behind your punches when your opponent is a foot taller than you. Ali wouldn't have knocked Wilt out. He most likely would've worn him down and won in a unanimous decision.

Ali in the ring, I'll give him that.

But can he hack it on the basketball court with Wilt?

    I don't think so.

    To each his own.
