"victuals" NOT "vittles"...grrrrrr

    And yet, the vittles pronunciation has been used at least far enough back that it appears in Great Expectations (in the even more incorrect form wittles). It stems from a common British practice of dropping the pronunciation of parts of words. For example Gloucester being pronounced like Gloster.

    I lived by the Gloucester tube in S. Kensington, so rep goes your way on that.
