http://www.chron.com/news/politics/article/Family-celebrates-Gallegos-last-election-victory-4014358.php It was an apparent victory in death for the late Texas Sen. Mario Gallegos. He died three weeks before election day, but remained on the ballot, and was again embraced by the community that has stood by him throughout a storied 22-year career, and some tough times in the Texas Legislature. A victory, which seemed all but inevitable late in the evening, would mean the district would not be surrendered to a Republican challenger and Gov. Rick Perry would have to call a special election in which another Democrat can seek to be handed the torch from the Gallegos legacy. -------------------------------------------------------------- I knew the guy personally and let me tell you, I can hear him talking smack as I'm typing this.
Losing to a dead man must be one of the most embarrassing things that could happen to someone. In all seriousness Gallegos sounds like an exceptional person, what a way to go out.
