VGA's Phantom Pain Trailer. Speculation It's Metal Gear Solid V

Huh, I thought the early MGS5 trailer was out a few months ago...

 

FYI, the next issue of Famitsu (Japanese gaming magazine, due out next week) will apparently have something for MGS fans. Maybe related to this. Or maybe just a MGS browser game.

 

I was hoping to keep that in the GDC thread (I knew TPP = MGS5 was being confirmed there), but since this has been bumped, we can keep the MGS discussion here. I'll keep the GDC stuff to GDC/technical stuff.

 

I'd rather post in this thread now that we have a dedicated MGS thread on page 1. I was just too lazy to search for this thread.

Some points about the trailer/gameplay:

- No Hayter as Snake. He's talking about not doing this on Twitter. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a twist regarding this though.

- Trailer starts with Big Boss and (presumably) Miller in ER. Seems like just the two, but there might be a 3rd character (from the camera's POV).

- What is with the "horn" on Big Boss?

- Psycho Mantis!

- This came out at the VGA trailer, but it sure does sound like Kiefer Sutherland is doing voice-work.

edit: Geoff Keighley will be doing an interview about this shortly, so expect more info soon. Still curious about the lack of (announced) next-gen support.

 

Yeah, Kiefer is definitely Ishmael. But it sounds like he voices the other "guy" too (seemingly Big Boss, but the voice + the beginning of the trailer with the missing 3rd character makes me wonder). Note that Ishmael never physically helps him too. Mind games.

And yeah, looks like Ocelot in the game.

Sounds like while Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain make up MGSV, they might not be released as the same product. It seems likely that GZ could be released first (maybe later this year) as a short (yet highly replayable) game. Possibly download-only (I'd hope for a slight discount at least). TPP could then be released 12-24 months later.

They've not outright said it, but I hope these games make it to the PC.
