I even gave it the extra 3 "!". According to Peter Vescey PACERS Having finished a far second to Sacramento for Chris Webber's stigmatized services (Jermaine O'Neal was so worried he was trade bait, he showed up at rookie camp), they are determined to come in first in the race with Miami (involved in trade talk with Golden State) for Hakeem Olajuwon. A meeting is set up for today, sources reveal. The Rockets pray it goes flawlessly. They're eager to work out a sign-and-trade to get him off their books and, therefore, be in position to re-sign Maurice Taylor and Shandon Anderson. Accepting Derrick McKey (one year left) and Sam Perkins (unguaranteed option) would permit Indiana to pay Hakeem $8M, $4M more than Houston's willing to pay their franchise center, who's equally eager to prove he's both fit and fly. Tell me again Pete, why would the Rockets accept two aging players, one of which would give them that all important 6th SF? Does Miami have anything to offer in a sign and trade? ------------------ "I always thought Hakeem was the better offensive player and DRob the better defender." Spurever Shaq would probably agree.
Getting those two would put us in the Free agent Market next year. Sam Perkins will draw out the shaqs of the world. . . I think he plays credible defense Rocket River ------------------
How about that no rotation 3! He's great from the outside too. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
Perkins is nice but redundant with Collier... and McKey was nice (5 years ago). I don't see much upside here. I mean, this isn't any better than renouncing him outright. Now if they wanted to give us Jonathan Bender, that would be different . ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news.
This has got to be a joke - Sam Perkins is already 40yrs old! He won't make it past January of the coming season. ------------------
Dude, you're a complete jackass, Nike started this thread 40 minutes before you started your thread and now you're telling people to go to your thread? Do you plan on copying other people's threads while you're at it and telling them to talk in your thread as well? ------------------ President of the CC.net Realist Club, everyone needs a dose of reality once in a while... I think The Big Smooth may be well over 50!! Those two won't help our team much and will limit roster spots for emerging young players such as Morris, Langhi. Am not opposed to sign and trade, so we can get on with it, but can't we do better than that?
I wouldn't want to waste money on those guys. McKey and Perkins are both well over the hill. Hakeem wins, the Pacers win, what do the Rockets get? Now if they were willing to throw in a draft pick, it might be another story. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
CD will not do a sign-n-trade that prevents us from signing Mo and Shandon to the money they clearly have already agreed to. imo, the only sign-n-trade possibility is Toronto, if they cash in that damn $5m trade exception. Why would we take more salary in return than we initially offered Dream? No one is going to trade us a center back, for sure. So, are primary objective in a sign-n-trade would be to keep the salaries returned in line with our ability to lock up Mo and Shandon.
All I know is we need the C&C Blockin' Factory baby! You remember when Riley said that his perfect team would consist of players from 6'7" to 6'9" ? Maybe that's what the Rockets are going for. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
