"Hey verse.... did you let your fingers do the walking?"

For the last 29 years I have been on one constant date.
It seems to be going well.

But thanks for bumping this up so Verse will see it next time he comes around. If somebody is curious about the reason for this post look at a post a page or two ago called "how long should I wait to call a woman?"

    Gene,

What is the story of saying "Jeep" in your posts?

I was guessing it was short for Gene Peterson. "GeeP"??

Yea that's right. When I signed on to Clutch City years ago I took the Gene Peterson to honor radio's ultimate homer. But it's weird signing corespondence with another person's name , so I just took to shortening it to GP than Jeep.

In real life I know it is patently against the rules to give yourself your own nickname. But I think everyone agreees that you need to maintain some anonymity on a BBS forum so you can express yourself freely without worrying about some psycho who disagrees with your opinions on Moochie sending you a bunch of hate mail.

If you don't like Jeep please feel free to refer to me as Mr. Peterson.

Honestly, I've never understood why people feel the need to sign their names after a post on a BBS.

    Dear Mr. Rocketman,

Re: Your comments posted this date

I agree with your assertion that it is redundant to add a siginature to a BBS post, since each post is labled with the moniker of the poster. However, the adding of a signature feels natural to those of us who were required to learn proper letter writing form in school.

Though a BBS post is certainly not a letter, it is a form of personal communication closely akin to one.So, until such time as a proper protocal for the format is agreed upon and and generally taught, all post either with or sans salutations shall be deemed equally correct and acceptable.

    Sincerely yours,

    Mr. Gene (Jeep) Peterson

Well, in Clutch BBS, his title should be:

    Mr. "Hangout boy" Rocketman 95

    Jeep:

Was your first draft of that letter much more concise?

    Perhaps only two words :D

    Obfuscation through verbosity!

I wish I knew the latin for that.
I do know the street slang for it though:

    Baffle'em with Bullsh*t

    (signature redndant)

Yes, I don't like it either, it's kind of annoying.

Well if you're going to make your posts the way you were taught to write, then don't half-ass it, make all your posts like the above instead of just doing a sig when you should be doing the salutation and everything*.

I'm just messin with you, but I bring up a valid point do I not?

And does this mean you'll shorten you signature to "BS'er"??

Yes. I expect everyone to dig up their copies of Strunk & White's Elements of Style. There will be a quiz later this week.
