In many ways he was the Dillion Brooks of his day; but probably more violent than Brook is. (Thinking of the weight room incident)
Damn, is this recent? Vernon is looking good for his age (58). No Chuck-style post-NBA blow-up for him
Vernon's pics have been posted on Twitter, Rockets.com, he's been on NBA podcasts, etc. Yes, he's that in-shape. lol.
Oh, poor youngster There was a 3 year span before MJ retired where the Rockets and Bulls had some battles. Maxwell was in the middle of them. The Rox went 5-1 vs Chicago in those years.
Dillon is a Canadian To me, he seems like a young-looking mid 40s... but still amazing considering he's 58.
I've told this story before, but back in the late 80's-early 90's, a bunch of NBA types and hangers-on played summer pickup league at Second Baptist...where we happened to be students and also hang out and lift weights and shoot hoops and hit the batting cage and such. Naturally we would stop and watch when certain people were on the court. Hakeem (and his brothers Taju and Afis) Moses Clyde Otis (embarrassed everyone in the weight room) Vernon Chris Morris Alvin Franklin (the coolest guy you'd ever meet) Robert Reid Reid Gettys David Wood (also notably awesome, not that the other guys weren't) and some UH youngsters like Craig Upchurch and Tim Moore ... off the top of my head from 30 years ago Only thing I remember about Vernon, other than him never shutting up while playing and being really cool with the little kids who also figured out that the gym was a place to be that day, was when a few of us walked a bit too close to his lavender/purple porche 911 in the parking lot and its alarm announced, robocop style, "Please step away from the car"
All time favorite Rocket!!! Quick story…..back in the early ‘90s I was getting harrassed big time while leaving a Rockets victory (near the court) at the Indiana Pacers arena for wearing Rockets attire and having a Rockets pennant with me. Max was star of the game and was being interviewed on court and noticed the situation and momentarily stopped his interview to walk over and thank me for my support of the team and shake my hand. As a kid, I thought that was the coolest thing in the world and it also helped to shut up those absolutely annoying Pacers fans.
