Maryland TE Vernon Davis ran a 4.38 forty at the NFL Scouting Combine. At 6'3 and 254 pounds, that is simply freakish speed. He also put up 225 pounds 33 times. Davis was already seen as a top ten pick and this should cement that status. His college production was excellent and the kid can block.

4.38 for a 254 pounder. That is scary. There is no way the Texans will draft him but thats unbelievable a guy of his size can run that fast.

    4.38 for a 254lb TE? That's pretty nasty.

Au Contraire. Say the Texans trade out of the #1 down to #7 with the Raiders in a deal that nets their #1 next year and an additional 3 rounder this year.
They might get VD, more than likely they would take Hawk but TE is a need and both are freaks.

    Could happen.

Is he worth a STD? ;)

I don't think the Texans will be looking for a TE in the first 2 rounds.

I don't really think the Texans will be looking for a TE in the first I was just thowing out a plausible scenario, but I wouln't be surprised at all if the 33 rd pick was a TE.

There are 4 or 5 really good ones in this draft but they will probably be gone by the 65th pick, we need a pass catching TE badly. He could do as much as a first year OL to lower the sack count if he could get open to dump the ball to. Marcedes Lewis could be the BPA in that range. If you miss Lewis and Bird you probably drop down to Fasano ,Klopenstein in the third or Thomas in the fourth. You could argue that the drop off on OL is the same, I just think that Davis, Pope and Lewis are sure things.

This is just the reason we need to move down, we don't really need a RB or a QB. We really need OL DE TE MLB and a CB. If we could get 6 picks in the top 4 rounds we could get some of all of these.

Why draft a TE when the Texans already drafted the most productive 2nd rounder in recent memory in Bennie Joppru. That guy has been a beast for the Texans, and Charlie Casserly really knew what he was doing with that pick. The Texans are solid at TE.

If the Texans trade down to pick up extra picks, I could see packing two first rounders to come back up to take Davis. He is an awesome TE, and imagine the impact he could have on the offense. Take a look at what Gates does for SD.

Those are phenom numbers for a guy his size.

The guy also lead his team with 51 catches, 871 yards and 6 TDs--far more productive in all respects than the next best receiver from his team.

Looks like an impossible 1 on 1 match-up (beast) to me and definetly a way to help out a QB and open up a whole offense.

Big time...he was the TE that the Texans needed and he never even got a chance to preform. He was highly touted coming out of college and it sucks to see that he never has stepped foot in a real game. I highly doubt he even will.
