My wife needs a new phone and we are kind of locked into Verizon through a plan from work.

I was going to get her the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but now it has been delayed to POSSIBLY next week...but who knows.

Should I just get her an iPhone and be done with it?

    OR

Is there a phone I'm not considering? She has a two year old Droid and likes the slide out keyboard...so I guess I could just get her the best phone with a slide out keyboard.

    Opinions?

Droid 4 was supposed to be out today; it's the same form factor as the other Droids with a slideout keyboard, but should have an LTE radio on it.

iPhone and Nexus are two very different devices; they're basically on opposite ends of the spectrum with regards to what people look for in a phone. iPhone is a highly locked, extremely polished OS that is pretty intuitive, but if you're not in the Apple ecosystem (iTunes, iCloud, Macbook), can be frustrating. Also, the screen looks absolutely stunning, but is only 3.5", and the phone itself is quite fragile and can't have its battery replaced. It has outstanding battery life, but must use Verizon's 3G network, which is worse than AT&T's I believe.

Galaxy Nexus will have a massive 4.65" screen from Samsung, as well as guaranteed updates to the Android OS, unlocked bootloader, no bloatware; the very top of the line in terms of user customizability. On the other hand, the ice cream sandwich OS is not nearly as polished. Battery life will definitely not be as good as the iPhone, but it will have access to data speeds that can put home modems to shame.

You can't go wrong with either phone; they're both fairly mature platforms, well supported and backed by great hardware. Just comes down to the type of user experience and form factor you want; whether getting data fast is more important, or whether battery life is the most important.

    Nexus on the 15th.
Just wait it out, however.. reports are coming in that some Radioshacks are letting customers buy them. I'm going to try tomorrow.

Droid 4 on either the 23 or 30(possibly)

This sucks, i found someone who is willing to sell me a Nexus but they can't get it activated since I'm currently on a 3G phone and Verizon refuses to provision a SIM card for me without the device.... and there's no way in hell I'm going to show them what phone I'm trying to activate lol

I've had one for a while now. Battery life is fine. Slightly worse than my Nexus One, but not bad.

I'm going to be picking up the extended battery (it actually doesn't make the phone look huge)

It will be a 2100mah battery
