Anyone else get this phone? I just got one from Amazon.com for $75 (new). I read some reviews and it seems like there are a few minor issues.
yea well if the phone is named CHOCOLATE then its either an extremely gay phone or its gonna suck, OR both.
working at the Verizon Call Center, you'd probably think I am sick of this, which I am, its advertising blitz has been annoying... with that said, its not a bad phone. I work in the WDTS (Wireless Data Tech Support) dept so which we support mostly PDAs,Treos, PC Cards, so we don't really support Chocolates that much. I have been able to play with it a little and its pretty nice. Smaller than I thought it was going to be and the touchpad is an interesting concept.
We currently use Verizon, and we need a couple of new phones, my wife and I, as well as one for my son. We're not on a contract, and as well as thinking of going with another service, although Verizon's service has been good (I'm concerned about the government getting info from them without my knowledge, but I digress), I'm wondering about what phones to get for the two of us... personally, I'd like to be able to check the web with it, if I want to, and read the news and the BBS from out of town. Have no interest in using one for MP3s, because we have iPods for that. Sometimes, I get stuck at a place without a laptop and a PC, and it can be frustrating. Any suggestions? From anyone?
I thought about getting this phone, since my "Any 2" is up now, but I've heard only mixed things about it. Instead, I think I'm gonna wait for the 8600 model, which is the flip version of the Chocolate. It should be out fairly soon, like in a month or two (Q4). IMO, flips are better than sliders. Plus, Motorola's KRZR and SLVR phones are coming to Verizon sometime during Q4 as well, which should add to the choices.
Interesting info. My wife and I can easily wait, but my son really needs one. Maybe I'll get him a pre-paid one, or something like that, until some of the new models come out. Or maybe someone will tell me the perfect phone!
The LG 8300 phone is highly rated, and a great many people think it's the best phone available for Verizon. (I think it's ugly as sin, though, and a little too bulky for my tastes. But, hey, to each their own.)
I agree with your assessment. (thanks for the post) I want something smaller, sleeker, and better looking. I tend to have the damn thing on my belt all day, and small is good. I just want small with lots of features, including web access. I'll check this one out, though.
I like flip phones better as well. I may look into that phone when it comes out. I only went with this one because I thought it was a steal at $75. I was with T-Mobile and it cost more than that to "upgrade" to one of their newer phones (even the ones that weren't so new anymore...like it cost $99 and a one yr contract to upgrade to the Motorola V360).
Another phone to look out for in the future (Q4?) is the LG 9900. It's an updated "V" (9800), but it's supposedly much slimmer. (The 9800 "brick" is absolutely, ridiculously bulky, which is its one fatal flaw.) The 9900 would be great for text messaging and internet since it has a full QWERTY keyboard inside. I assume it will also have an MP3 player, camera, and Bluetooth. The current "V" brick:
https://careers.verizonwireless.com/erphrprd/home/careerhome1.html Lookup Job Req:173484 Thats basically for Tier 1 support, for cell phone support, as I work for Tier 3 support which is basically support for PDAs/Smartphones/PC cards.
Deckard, unfortunately, I not the right person to ask about cell phones, if you were looking to PDAs, I would HIGHLY reccommend the Audiovox 6700, that thing is a work of beauty As stated above, I mostly work with Blackberry, Treos, and Windows Mobile devices, so unfortunately I do not know much about the cell phones. The 8300 phone listed above is basically the best one out there and haven't heard about complaints about it.
