I'm pretty sure it's the last day of the month, but I can't find the letter so now I'm thinking I gotta do it online.

Don't you have to do it within a certain time before the last day of the month in order to do it online? Like you can't just do it a few days before the last day.... maybe I'm mistaken.

True... but most people go to an office where they can actually give it to you. I think you order it online a week prior to it expiring.

Yeah, but he said he didn't have the letter, so I doubt the store can do anything for him, can they? Wouldn't he have to go to the courthouse (barring not being able to do it online)?

    You don't need a letter.

All you need is a driver's license.

On that link, it said you need the renewal notice as well as proof of insurance.

You do need a little slip that you get in the mail... but that's mailed to you automatically by the DPS... and you also need proof of insurance like BMW said.

I just renewed mine yesterday online. I guess they somehow already know if you have insurance or not because it didn't ask me for proof of that, and the screen noted that I was insured. It costs $2 more though to do it online.

Mine expires in June, so I've still got time. Now that I see they charge another 2 bucks to do it online, I may look a little harder for that letter.

$2 more online beats waiting in that long line.

That's the same thing I thought. And since they charge you $1 more to send in a check, I figured the $2 wasn't so bad. They will get ya not to wait regardless.

Oh.. well.. if he can't find the letter, then yeah, you can't go to one of the offices to retrieve a sticker. I'm not sure about online, I've never done it through online.

    1. Definitely ends on the LAST day of the month listed on your current tag.
    2. Without the registration renewal notice, you will be required to renew directly from the county, either online or at a county office (i.e. - not a grocery store)
    3. If your tag has expired, you have a five day grace period (i.e. - until the 5th of the following month) within which to renew with no penalty.
    4. If you are ticketed for an expired registration that is less than 60 days expired (including the 5 day grace period), you may have the ticket dismissed by renewing the registration and providing proof of current vehicle registration to the court.
    5. If you are more than 60 days expired, you're screwed.

Can you guess what I was pulled over for recently?
