Its official now, Harrah's Entertainment Inc. (Yes the Casiono) is partnering with AEG (Houston Dynamo/LA Beckham's owner) on plans to build a 20,000-seat arena behind Bally's and the Paris hotel casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. The facility will be built with all the amenities to lure an NBA or NHL team to town. Given the NHL's current state, the NBA is obviously the more attractive option to land. More from Forbes.com Now, we all know the Maloofs are paying close attention, especially given the fact that they still cannot secure an arena deal in Sacramento. And even though Sonics minority owner and partner Aubrey McClendon has sounded off that majority owner owner Clay Bennett bought the Sonics with the intention to move them to OKC (LINK), an owner still cannot ignore the riches that will obviously await them at a spankin new arena on the Vegas Strip. So now the question begs.....Who's goin to Vegas?
Oh God... Please Stern, don't let this happen. If it happens at all, It'll be Sacramento. Seattle going to OKC.
You know, now that I actually think about it, with this whole Tim Donaghy/gambling activity thing playing out, Im pretty sure David Stern and the league CAN ignore the riches that await at a new arena on the Vegas Strip. Still, I think this opens the door to the Kings exit from Sacramento.
Up until now, Stern really didn't have to worry, because Vegas didn't have an NBA quality arena, but now... Really, can Stern do anything if a team wants to move to Vegas? This whole ref scandal happened without a team in Vegas, so does it really matter if there is a team there?
If the Maloofs abandon Sacramento and those fans, they are assholes. Seriously, what's the sell-out streak at now?
i'm going to vegas! harrah's is a very large corporation, not just a 'casino'! Please Please, name the team, the HIGHROLLERS!
I wonder what their uniform will look like. What about their mascot? Slot machine with legs? I wouldn't be able to take a professional team from Vegas seriously. It would be like the Dynamo's here. Would anyone really care?
