Im thinking of going back to Vegas. My gf wants to go for New Years, I of course want to go for All Star weekend. Neither of these times are very friendly to the wallet. The hotel rates are high, and Im sure the table limts are as well. I need to minimize some damage I have been to Vegas several times, and have stayed at the best, and most affordable hotels on the strip. However, paying $300 a night to stay at Excalibur or Circus Circus is absurd. I was wondering if anyone had any decent hotel recommendations off the strip??? Not necesarrily Freemont street, but say a good hotel off a nearby freeway with out a huge casino in it. I dont mind because I always rent a car so I can go to more affordable places to eat as well as shop, but I have never stayed off the strip. Im pretty familiar with driving. Any recommendations?
Gummi, Vegas on New Years is the worst time to go in terms of getting a decent price. what days did u want to go? sat-mon?
Try South Point, it's on Las Vegas Blvd. but not on the strip.. it's like at the end of the road. There was nothing around it, and it's a big ass hotel, also very nice rooms and good casino. If your a poker player, the poker room isn't that great, but it's decent, and they hold tourney's every morning. www.southpointcasino.com
Holy crap, Circus Circus is $300/night, damn then Freemont street it is...well, not sure, but Hooters and San Remo are ok, from what I hear...I also heard Golden Nugget is nice...There is a hotel (???) that has the Whiskey bar in it...Its about 20 minutes from the strip...may want to check there... Good luck...
I got married in Vegas on New Years Eve a few years ago, I would never go back to Vegas during New Years again - way too crowded
I was thinking more like Thurs to Mon. I know its a horrible idea, but my gf is hell bent on going. She always makes a big deal for new years. I dont mind going as long as I find a deal on a room. Like I said, we've done the whole strip deal before so I know it wont be missed much, and I know where to go to find great deals on food, shopping, etc. but Ive never stayed off the strip. Usually my comps give me great rates, but the rates for these dates are absurd and I prefer not to use my comp points to pay an above normal rate. I can use expedia, but I was hoping a clutch fan would have first hand experience and knowledge. It will be myself and mostly my gfs friends, and Im sure the females would prefer a nice clean room, myself prefers a deal. Im trying to find a balance. undoubtably i would still be spending time on the strip and driving to shop and eat. i dont mind driving 30 minutes to go back to the room for the night.
Gummi, Im going the week after for CES. But unless you have some major luck on the tables, you could easily afford 5 vegas vacations for that 1 on new years. plus the week after new years has lots of college/pro football bowl/playoff games.
the ladies are hell bent on being somewhere when the ball drops. its dumb i know. but they make a really big deal out of the new years holiday. can anyone vogue for the table limits on that weekend? 25 minimum black jack most places? or can you still find a good 2.50-5.00 game? not that i gamble much anyways, id be mostly eating, clubbing, shopping, and i plan on going to see LOVE.
Search around at the Station Casinos... http://www.stationcasinos.com/hotel/accommodations/ Most of these are nicer...some (Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock (ask tinman)) moreso than the popular strip hotels. Sunset Station is right in the middle of a big shopping area...so the ladies might like hanging there. On the other hand...I've got a downstairs room in Henderson that I'll rent out. I don't give out comps though.
I agree. South Point is were me & my buddies stayed at last time we went to Vegas (in July). We ended up getting one of the sweats the last couple of days. Its pretty nice.
darn it we stayed at this cheap place on new years before, near the hard rock and used their shuttle arghhh, i can't remember...small hotel/motel with small casino, but close enough to the strip okay, i found it quality inn key largo, vegas...umm, use multiple 3rd party websites for that is probably better in this situation. and this is Terrible's...their 7$chicken dinner is amazing, and a nice area close to the strip too http://www.terribleherbst.com/casinos/lasvegas/location.html
this thread makes me laugh. the OP wants to find a cheap place to stay and then find 2.50 blackjack in vegas...ON NEW YEAR'S EVE!!!!!!!!! Unless you go to a real **** hole (not downtown) you aint gonna find 2.50 blackjack in vegas on the slowest day. when's the last time you went to vegas, when the Mirage was the new place in town?
http://costco.americawestvacations.com a trip leaving on the 28th and coming back the 2nd priced out to $661 a person with airfare not bad for 5 nights take 250 off for airfare per person, you end up paying 160 a night for circus circus
Tahiti Village... https://www.consolidatedresorts.com/consolidated_family.asp ...it's some sort of timeshare joint...but you might get lucky and find someone trying to dump theirs for that timeframe.
Obviously you dont know your way out of the tourist traps. I was in Vegas in July. I usually go there once a year. Imperial Palace and Excalibur have great table rates on the strip. You probably pay $25 a hand at a shuffling machines mercy. My friend who lives in Vegas recommended Red Rock as well. Tinman, did you use the freeway to get back to the strip? If not that Sahara drive is pretty long.
Charleston will take you back towards DT/Strip and ultimately pass one of the better outlet malls in Vegas. Charleston is a handful of blocks north of the northernmost Strip hotels.
