Anyone ever stayed here? I just booked a room there for May 16-19. It was less than half the price of a lot of places on the Strip, including Planet Hollywood where we typically stay. What's the typical cab fare from downtown to the Strip? Thanks!
the only time I've been to vegas, i stayed there, it was nice, in what they say is old downtown. but this was four years ago. anyway, your post reminds me of the goofy chick on the commercial for the new resort in vegas (i don't even know the name) she has the whiny voice east coast accent and says "come onnn, you know you wanna, las vegas is calling"
Cab fare was surprisingly expensive between the 2...I want to say I paid about $25? I stayed at the Nugget for 1 night last March (and then I moved to the Strip for my others nights). After the renovation, it looks great! The pool in the atrium-like center of the hotel is sweet (beach entrance, slide that comes down from maybe 2 stories up)... and it even has a small aquarium that's right above the pool. So you can swim under it if you're in the pool...and the slide that comes down actually goes *through* it! (clear all around) So you can see the fish/sharks as you're sliding through. Restaurants were decent (I liked the Chinese place), poker room was bigger than I thought it'd be (though still way smaller than a Strip hotel). Overall, incredible value for what you pay for one of those rooms. I was happy with it and would go again if I could convince my friends to stay out there too... but yeah, it's a big negative that you can't go back to your room at all during the day unless you wanna pay the cab ride back...and waste a lot of time doing it.
I've never stayed, but people that I know that have said its nice...It's in downtown, with the old casinos, but who cares...One of these times, I'll suck it up and stay there but I usually like to be on the strip...
About $20. The Nugget is really nice now. They did a good job. However, the only problem with staying there (though not a big deal) is that you don't have the luxury of walking back to your room whenever you want after hanging out on the strip. Those $20 cab rides kind of add up.
I've been to the Golden Nugget a couple times and I think its the best in downtown by far. When I was there, the Sportsbook was pretty sad along with all the sportsbooks in downtown. I don't know if they've changed it recently since the new ownership, but the Strip Sportsbooks are the way to go.
The Nugget is fantastic...we are going again for the 1st week of the NCAA basketball tournament. The Nugget has great resteraunts and the pool is excellent people watching territory.
Not sure. I was there during the NFL playoffs and went to a Sportsbook on the strip (only because that's where we were hanging out when I decided on who I wanted to pick)
The sportsbook in the Nugget is small but nice. Pretty much everything in the GN has been recently renovated. Easily the class of downtown, but everything at GN is the class of downtown. To be honest, I like staying on the strip, but LOVE gambling downtown. If you want better odds and rules on virtually anything you can play, play downtown. I put a bet on the Winky Wright fight last summer while I was in the GN. It's a great value for the price you pay assuming you aren't a snob for the strip.
That's where I wanted to go for the first few days...just not the right timing. Thanks for all the posts...I can't wait. It'll be nearly four years since my last trip out there.
You're gonna have a blast and you are going to be shocked at how many more places there are now compared to 4 years ago. I need to go back there soon
Best hotel downtown by a mile. They just renovated a ton of it, great pool, great new dining places. You are gonna love it. DD
Yeah. We're spending five days in the Bay Area to see my sister and the Astros v. Giants. Flying to Vegas from San Francisco to spend the weekend in Las Vegas. Can't wait.
Cancel your reservation, and stay on the strip. There's nothing to do downtown, and it gets seedy at night. All the best restaurants, sportsbooks, and clubs are on the main part of the strip. With what you'll be spending on other stuff, the hotel is the least of your costs.
