Vecsey: Webber has no desire to join Rockets

Can Peter Vecsey make up his mind? Only a week ago he was saying he thought Webber would go to the Rockets.

    http://www.nypost.com/sports/26712.htm

For that same reason (contrary to reports), Webber has no desire to join the Rockets, either, despite their ample salary-cap space and the amped-up backcourt of Steve Francis and Cutino Mobley.

The article quotes a source that "communicates regularly by two-way pager" with Webber... saying he better start acting like he wants to go to Detroit or Houston if he wants to get what he really wants ("a team he really wants to play for")

BTW, ESPN's Ric Bucher told me about 4-5 days ago his understanding is CWebb wants out of the West because he doesn't think anyone can beat the Lakers or Spurs by adding him, and that he believed he preferred Orlando (which is what Vecsey's article says)

This just proves how little credibility that Vecsey has. One the Webber is going to the Rockets and the next day he better start acting like he wants to go to the Rockets so he can get to Orlando!

At least now regardless of where Webber ends up Vecsey can say 'I told you so'. Throw enough mud against the wall and sooner or later some of it will stick!

I like how he wrote 'contrary to reports' rather than 'contrary to my report'. [IMG]

Thank goodness Will helped us get over this wussy b*stard in his big thread.

    Chase: What's it say?
    Akroyd: *****.

Now everybody, try to imagine the ideal Center that you'd put next to Mo. Make sure he rebounds, btw. While you're at it, imagine us a nice SF that rebounds.

    Here's to a top 3er!

Its alright. Its not the end of the world. There are many options this year. We need one more franchise type player this year. It does not have to be Webber.

Just one question for Webber. If what Vescey is saying is true. Lets say he does go to Orlando and wins the East. I dont think the conference championship is the NBA championship or is it? He will have to face the west sooner or later.

    This is interesting... from the <a href="http://www.latimes.com/sports/nba/20010520/t000042460.html" target="_blank">LA Times</a>:

The King is dead (cont.): Webber is expected to leave, but General Manager Geoff Petrie vows he won't do a sign-and-trade. Webber will probably drop out of sight, as he did when he was traded to Sacramento, hoping to force Petrie's hand.

If Petrie won't do a sign and trade wouldn't that play right into the Rockets hands?

I can't stand Vecsey. Just slightly over a week ago, he said we were frontrunners.

The thing is, no one really knows what Webber's thinking, except, Get me the hell out of Sacramento.

If he really, really, really wants to go East, then let him.

What if Orlando, with its combination of draft picks and semi-useful scrubs, pulls off the hat trick by trading for Webber (re-signed Amaechi, Outlaw, #15 and #23) and then signed Hakeem to the exception? Ouch.

If Steve's faith is well-placed, great. But Chris needs to want to be here. So we have to make sure the center position doesn't suck.

Still, a lineup of Steve, Cat, Keith Van Horn, Mo, Marc Jackson, and maybe Brendan Haywood and Terrence Morris as backups wouldn't be too bad, either. Mo loves it here; Oeilpere said KVH would kill to play here; Marc Jackson expressed interest in playing here. A happy team is a productive team.

I keep going back and forth over Webber's worth but I have to put my faith in CD and RT. I wonder if or when they'll pull the plug on the Webber chase. Doc Rocket said Steve believes Chris is coming here; Clutch posted how the organization has faith in getting him. I just hope Chris isn't jerking Steve around over the phone: "Sure, sure, I'll be there." But, again, I trust CD and RT not to put all their eggs in one basket.

So CWebb wants to play in the Magic Kingdom as of last report. And? He's changed his mind 1,000 times and he will change them 1,000 more before this process is over. I'll tell you this: I don't think the Magic has what it takes to pull it off. They would have to dish off Grant Hill, or get Chris to sign for the exception. I don't see either as likely.

Please let us get higher than 13... We can stop talking about Webber, and start talking about the draft!

"I don't have a Peter" Vecsey sure doesn't know what he's talking about. How can anyone with a legitimate opinion contradict themselves so soon. That b@st@rd!

But kinda makes you think though... Is Chris Webber worth all of this drama?

its a win win situation this summer. if he doesnt come here we will still have mo taylor. if he doesnt come here he will most likely go to the east. if hes in the east hes not in sacramento. which is an open playoff spot for us. no matter what happens rockets fans should have a lot to look forward to next season. but if webber wants everything everyone says he does, hed come here. damn im so insightful.

Did you ever notice how Peter Vescey always called Hannah storm Hanner? it was his new york accent or something, but everytime she asked him a question, hed go "Well, Hanner.."
go ahead and look if you have any old games on tape. its true.

I agree with you, if Webber prefers to go east I hope the Rockets immediately move forward with other plans, i.e. resign MO, Mark Jackson, KVH, etc... and take themselves out of the Webber sweepstakes.

In my opinion, if you're going to invest the max in a player, you don't want to end up being his second or third choice, especially when there are other options.

    Blah, Blah, Blah.

Peter Vescey should somehow purchase a glass stomach if he continues to refuse to pull his head out of his ass.

I doubt even Chris Webber really knows where he's going, and Vescey expects me to believe the he knows, especially after writing two directly contradicting pieces in the past few weeks. Nonsense.

What is this stuff about Eddie Griffin being able to guard Kobe? He is a big man who has the ability to hit the outside sho, which is why he MAY be able to play small forward. He doesn't have nearly the lateral quickness or footspeed to guard Kobe. So what if he can block shots, if he is guarding Kobe on the perimeter, Kobe will blow right by him and get right to the hoop. He will be far more effective guarding a post player so he can block shots when guards, such as Kobe, come into the paint.

Eddie's natural position is Sf since he weighs 210. I think a good comparison for him would be Garnett or Mcgrady. Ok maybe i went a little too far by saying he could guard kobe. But I know he would match up well against players like garnett, or mcgrady. And if Eddie was on this team and we were playing the lakers, i wouldn't be able to think of anybody better to guard kobe than him, since kobe would abuse cat.

Everybody keeps talking about how we need a big Center to get past Shaq. I'm more worried abotu a strong defensive SF/Sg that can stop Kobe. I've yet to see Shaq destroy a team in a 7 game series. He get's hi 25-35 points and 10-20 rebounds, but it never seems like he's the one that beas you. I watch Kobe and it's like he's shoving a dagger in your back the entire way down the court.

If we want to get out of the west, let's start talking about a defensive SF that can match up with Kobe instead of forcing Cat to guard him. We've got Collier and whoever we get as a backup can put all of their fouls on Shaq.
