from today's NYPost, and for what they are worth: Miami is in the hunt for Erick Dampier or Nazr Mohammed, it's prime bait being Caron Butler, a Heat hearing aide reports . . . The Bulls and Pistons are, indeed, discussing a swap of Corliss Williamson for Marcus Fizer and Kendall Gill. Bob Sura's name hasn't come up because his salary doesn't work. The Wizards and Clippers are talking seriously about swapping Brevin Knight for Keyon Dooling and Melvin Ely, I'm told.
No way Miami gets Dampier for a fallen-apart Butler. Clips are pushing the Dooling/Ely package hard to get a little more under the cap for Kobe (they will have $11 as of now). I think they're in auction mode right now. Whoever has the best bid in about two weeks wins. Evan
Why do people listen to Vecsey? He just throws crap up and hopes it'll stick. I don't remember the last time he was right. Same with most of the insiders. If someone like Aldridge says it, I might listen.
Why are they trying to get rid of Caron Butler? I haven't seen him this season but he was terrific las season.
Vecsey doesn't completely make up what he reports, he just overstates gossip he hears to a degree that is out of touch with any sense of reality. Source: Al Harrington thinks he should be starting. Vecsey the next day: Al Harrington is unhappy in Indiana and wants out. Expect a trade to the Knicks!
Even Vecsey doesn't expect Bird and Isaih dealing with each other. Vecsey was once the best NBA writer out there. But for years he's been slipping way way out of the orb.
I think the people are wrong who say Vescey just makes things up. I've got a friend who frequently has some inside information about a pro-sports team (not the Rockets). He talks about some of it occasionally. A few things he mentions happen, most don't... and most of it I don't even hear mentioned in the media. I think Vescey's like that friend of mine, except he's telling the entire world. I'm sure that most sports writers know the same things - but don't write about it, because they have higher standards. Being constantly wrong doesn't do anything for yoru credibility... and people get bored of reading about trades with little chance of happening.
