Ok I know this doesn't belong here, but since no one ever posts over on the NBA dish thought Id put this up here. Peter Vecsey made some pretty astounding and astute comments tonight on TNT 1. If the Hawks can't trade Isiah Rider, they will cut him. Which would allow pat Riley to take a chance and pick him up off of waivers for the rest of the season. -ummmm. Why on Gods green earth would they pay untold millions this season to have Rider sit? I know he's a bugger, but Rider makes a ton. And secondly wouldn't about 27 other teams have to pass up on Rider before it came to the Heat? Why wouldn't a team like the Clipps or Warriors pick him up and only pay him league minimun, and have the Hawks pick up the rest of the millions? 2. The Lakers want to trade Glenn Rice for a draft pick or someone like Toni Kukoc to free up cap space. -ummmmm. a.Rice is a FA after this season. And his salary is going to count against the Lakers this season anyways. There's no way to "Free up cap space" b.Isn't there a collective bargaining agreement that doesn't allow trading a big money player for a draft pick? Who is this guy to be bagging on the legitamacy of the David Aldridges?
If Rider is cut, he can be picked up by any team that can fit his salary under their cap. If he clears waivers, he can play for any team that is willing to pick him up and for any amount depending on cap issues and his monetary demands.
b.Isn't there a collective bargaining agreement that doesn't allow trading a big money player for a draft pick? If Chicago could fit Rice's contract under their current cap, then I don't believe that there's anything preventing them from trading a draft choice for Rice. I'd have to wonder why Chicago would do that deal? They wouldn't be freeing up any more cap room for themselves, and they might actually win more games this year and hurt their draft position. Only way I see Chicago taking Rice is if LA takes Hersey Hawkins contract off of their hands. But then, how does that really help LA?
while on the subject of idiots with a forum... check out this gem from Mr. Brillo Pad himself- The Rockets haven't been sub-.500 since Hakeem Olajuwon signed on. - Dale Robertson I understand you were working at the Post at the time, Dale, so journalistic research took a back seat to Page 3 Girls or whatever else your deceased former employer focused on. But are you forgetting a 38-44 season ('91-'92) that landed the team in the lottery, causing scores of Rocket faithful to scream, profane, and wail over the selection of Robert Horry? Maybe you should hook up with Pastorini again so he can put a 'smartness' dent on the other side of your nappy head. In other words, don't count on your memory to write a column. ------------------ "We have no eternal allies and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual."
payaso although the rockets were in the lottery after the 91-92 season, their record was 42-40...their last sub-500 record was 83-84 (sampson's rookie year) when they were 29-53...
