I just listened to NBATV's live interview with him and he said the JVG is still looking for another outside shooter. No way i want to lose Taylor, he's playing too well.
(oops, meant to edit, not to reply to my own post) Maybe ole Peter hasn't seen much of MoT this year and how consistent Taylor has hit the 15-20 footer this season. btw, Vescey also said he does not expect Francis to be traded, and he's learned that they both get along to some degree after they playfully wrestled at a practice one day.
Austin Croshere is a joke. He's overpaid just like Taylor but Mo is by far a much better player. Just when you think Peter Vescey couldn't get any worse, he brings up this up. Thank god i no longer have to see him on the NBA on NBC anymore.
Taylor should get serious considerations for 6th man of the year and maybe even most improved. He need to be more of a defensive presence and rebound more. Then we could dangle Cato out there and see what we can get. I don't think we are trading anyone before the trade deadline. If we don't make the playoffs, we will blow this team up with the exception of Yao.
By "they," did Vecsey mean Francis and JVG, or did he mean Francis and Taylor? If he meant JVG, then I can't even imagine JVG and Francis "playfully wrestling." If he meant Taylor, then this also sounds weird since I thought Steve and Mo got along a lot better than "to some degree."
I saw that interview as well. I consider Mo a shooter, so trading one shooting 4 for another shooting 4 doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If Austin added rebounds and blocks along with his shooting, I could understand the rationale. But IMHO the net effect would be the same.
How many permutations of trades exist in the NBA that could involve the Rockets? I think Vecsey's trying to nail every one of them so he can go back and say "Remember #295879821? I toldja it would happen".
when is the freaking trading deadline? i can't wait to be able to read real rockets discussion without all the trade speculation (at least for a few weeks...).
By no stretch I am a big Vecsey fan but his point was that Van Gundy still wanted shooters to surround Yao. Croshere has great range for a 6'10" PF (much better range than Mo T). And Croshere is also capable at some SF. IMO, the questions you have to ask yourself are these... * What is Taylor's upside and will he ever totally escape being an injury risk? Or is the the best he can recoup from injury? * How much of Taylor's productivity is attributable to playing against 2nd units? * Mo is fairly popular...is chemistry at risk? * Was the Croshere from the NBA finals the real Croshere? Are his low stats the result of no PT? Francis and Van Gundy.
MO is an allstar to me. He only person who can replace him is another allstar, with the exception of course of Steve. Croshere? Hell NOo.
Croshere was a potentially good PF. But after he got his huge contract his stopped working hard... It's a waste, because he has the tools/body/hands to be very good...
I wouldn't trade Mo for Croshere. Mo has more heart and intensity out there. And he's been shooting great.
not in a million years. Why trade a modestly overpaid 6th man of the year for a more overpaid useless stick?
