According to Peter Vecsey of the New York Post, sources close to the Houston Rockets have informed him that center, Hakeem Olajuwon has been resigned to a two year contract. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Vecsey goes on to say that the deal will become public later this week, perhaps Thursday at the earliest. I can't seem to remember where i heard this info from, but it was either from FOX Sports Southwest, ESPN, CNNSI, or some other sports programming. Well, this is either good news or bad news depending on whether or not you're an Hakeem Olajuwon Fan. I am a FAN.

After watching the Hakeem thing on nba.com tv, I got a little nostalgic about the guy. At least 3 different times, the Dream almost left Houston by either demanding a trade or the Rockets almost accepting a trade. Each time, the problem got resolved and Dream stayed a Rocket. I said last week that I think Dream will probably re-sign with the Rockets, and I still believe it. I just hope he stays for a reasonable deal. After all of the times Hakeem almost left, it would be really sad to see him go now. I hope this isn't some Rainey-esque joke. I hope Dream comes back, and I hope it's a good deal for both sides.

Unfortunately, it was Vecsey that reported this news. I hope someone else can confirm this information.

If it is true, and he was signed to a reasonable contract, that is great. I would love Dream to retire a Rocket, as long as it doesn't hinder the team's future. I doubt the org. would sign him to a contract that would severely hurt the team, so I am happy. It is not as if there was much else out there to choose from anyway.

Hopefully Vescey isn't talking out his ass.

I hope he's right this time, dream and the rockets go hand and hand, it's just like how houston and dream were ment to be. I think dream just wants to feel important right now but in his heart he wants to stay here(I'm guessing).

I hope your right. Time to take care of Mo T. and Moochie. I like Shandon, but the new rules don't help his game. He is best at being a slasher. He is not comfortable standing behind the 3-point line waiting to shoot. Walt still taller, still a better 3-point shooter and contract almost up. Besides several other young players waiting to play SF. I think that point and SG position could be handled between Francis, Mobley, Moochie, possibly Langhi and maybe Colson. Just my opinion. What we need is a center that is better than Collier and Cato.

Doesn't vecsey have "the latest scoop" once every week????? The thing is it seems more probable that hakeem will sign with the rockets. Camp opens up in october (i believe) so it would be likely hakeem will sign by the end of this week or next in order to give our 2-3 FA that we want to sign by camp time.

If it offers peace of mind, it was Vescey who first announced of the Rockets/Nets trade that landed us Eddie Griffin.

I would not trust a poster with the few posts that "The Source" has. Does not provide a link, can't remember the news group?? "the Source says "I can't seem to remember where i heard this info from, but it was either from FOX Sports Southwest, ESPN, CNNSI, or some other sports programming" If Hakeem were to sign in the near future, it would be all over the internet not to mention the radio and morning newspapers. Strange that no other poster had heard this Vessey inside info. FREDTERP

would be awesome if true (at a reasonable rate of course [IMG]).

I agree with all about "the source" of the info. Nice first post IF TRUE - will deserve instant guru status. If not, go back to ESPN's chat room. Being able to quote a fool does not make you wise. Vecsay is a "yo momma" sized fool.

The latest news I've read is that John Lucas and the Cavs are going after him and that was today on ESPN.com. [IMG]
