I'm curious to see if this is a card game that a lot of other people have heard of. I grew up with almost all Asian friends, so we still get together and play this card game, sometimes for pretty big dollars. For those of you who have never heard of it, here's a simple break down of the rules. Usually 4 players with 13 cards each. Number sequence low to high goes 3-Ace, then 2 is the highest. Suit sequence goes low to high Spades. Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts Person with the lowest card (3 of Spades) goes first and has to play it. Next person on the left goes next. You can play single cards, pairs, triples, or straights from 3 cards to 13. Can only play the same type of cards at a time. (Pairs can only be played with other pairs, pair of 4's beats 3's so on. If you can't play, you can pass. Winner is the one who gets rid of his cards first. 2 of hearts is the highest card but can be beaten by a slam. Slam is 4 of a kind or three consecutive pairs. Pair of 4s, 5s, 6s, etc. Usually play a 5-10 game, winner gets 10 bux, 2nd wins 5, 3rd pays 5, 4th pays 10. Keep a running total til the end of the night, usually early the next morning. Anybody else ever play this?
yeah...this is kinda my major source of income since im in high school and dont work...pretty addicting game(if you play for money that is). If youre not a pro at it, dont play it, especially for money because it requires a lot of strategy and youre not experienced with it.
I grew up going to chuch at Chinese Baptist in Houston and we played this game a lot except I think they called it Big 2 back then..
it is totally ******* for money, except no card swapping I guess, and no telling the ******* to go fill the pitcher. And there is no "slam" in *******. I miss drinking games, now that I think about it.
man this game was played like crazy when i was in high school (96-00) although less my senior year i think. i remember when i first saw it, i thought it was stupid, then i got into it pretty good. cool game, i was usually pretty good, but we never played for money. just needed a friendly teacher during the study period each day and you could play.
This game used to be extremely popular with high schoolers, especially amongst the Asian population. I dunno if the kids play it anymore. It's also called Egyptian Rat Screw. And VC is Viet Cong, not Vietnamese Combat.
U sure about that? Never heard it called that, but judging from these rules, it doesn't sound anything like Tien Len to me. http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Lobby/4968/ratscrew.html http://www.waste.org/~oxymoron/cards/ratscrew.html
Egyption Ratscrew is played as follows Deal cards to all players and don't look at the cards. start with someone, who'll flip a card in the center then the person next to them flips out a card. then go round and round until there are doubles, slap doubles you get the pile, or a face card. If it's an ace, the next player get 4 chances to get a face card or there are doubles during the flipping of the 4(anyone can slap), king 3 with same rule, queen 2 same rules, jack is one. It's a fun fast game that becomes addictive Playing for money leads to broken fingers... unless you're playing with n00bs.
it was always called Egyptian Rapture at my school. while rapture sorta sounds like Rat Screw, i am 110% certain that's what people were saying b/c everyone called it that and i heard the name about a million times. probably my favorite game to play also. you gotta be good and remember the cards so you know when doubles are coming up. then people like my sister get pissed off at you for memorizing and tell you to stop doing it.
I played way too much VC back in high school myself. Glad to see the rules posted, since I forgot them. I'll have to try to see if I can play some VC this weekend. B
I thought my HS only played this game. This has to be one of the best card games of all time ... close to cribbage. we used to get in fights all the time with this game regarding rules. We used to do shots ... who oever lost took a shot. We'd get ****ed up quick and down a bottle in no time.
