Rockets, Spanoulis agree to 3-year deal

    By JONATHAN FEIGEN
    Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle
The Rockets reached agreement with guard Vassillis Spanoulis on a three-year contract worth more than $5 million, the largest initial contract they had ever offered a second-round pick.

Spanoulis told Athens newspaper Eleftheros Typos that he would officially accept the contract offer sometime today or tomorrow Houston time.

The Rockets acquired the rights to Spanoulis in an exchange of second-round picks during the 2004 Draft. He played well enough for Maroussi Honda to move to Greek league power Panathanaikos last season and helped lead that team to the Greek league championship.

A member of the Greek Olympic team in 2004 Spanoulis, a 6-3 1/2-inch combination guard, is training with the Greek team for the World Championships and will not be in Houston until September.

    Cool.

    Now, is he any good?

    Roster so far:

    Guards: Alston, Head, Snyder, Spanoulis
Forwards: McGrady, Battier, Howard, Hayes, Novak, Bowen
    Centers: Yao, Mutombo

If McGrady and Battier aren't going to play 2-guard, we still have a smallish backcourt outside of Snyder.

Very good news. Since Banks agreed with Suns there are not many free agents left and Spanoulis is the best option available for Rox. I really think he will make a great impact for the Rox.

CD and the Rox must have seen something special in him that they offered him a 3-year deal worth more than 5 mil.

They also saw something special in Matt Maloney and gave him 7 years, same with Mo Taylor, and Moochie Norris...

Hopefully, Spanoulis can break the trend.

Hmmm...so this takes care of our MLE?

"The Rockets reached agreement with guard Vassillis Spanoulis on a three-year contract worth more than $5 million, the largest initial contract they had ever offered a second-round pick."

I have been, and I am excited about him...I'm just hoping he doesn't bust.
