THe Expos are apparently going to deal Javier Vasquez to NY. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1678044
The Yanks have coveted Javier Vazquez for a long time. This means they've found a replacement for Roger Clemens. And the rich get richer.
Ha Ha....................be out spent by the stinkin Sox........I dont think so. They may have gotten "Schill," but now we got "Sheff," goin to get Vaquez, and are now talking to the Dodgers bout' Kevin Brown. They wanna play Star Wars...........let the games (.....and bidds) begin.......... "Let's Go Yan-kees!"
BTW......... Who in here thinks that if the Yanks add Kevin Brown to Moose and possibly Vasquez and Colon who there both close on now, that................they might actually let Andy Pettite to the Stros'. I do........now in light of this. Here's why....... Steinbrenner hates to lose.......especially in bidding wars. If he knows he will lose a bidding war for any player.........even Andy Pettite, he will turn his attention elsewhere before a bidding war even starts to make it look like he let the player walk to go after "bigger and better things" as he always calls it. And now it appears the Yankees are turning the attention elsewhere from Pettite..............which is a good sign for the Astros cause in signing him.
Um, Kevin Brown is what like 38 or 39?? Getting Vasquez is definitely better for them than getting Colon, but the rotation that they listed in Castor's link is still not that fearsome: Mussina, Lieber, Vasquez, Contreras, and Weaver - ooh, I am shaking in my boots!! Seriously, getting Brownie might be the best thing as that would probably mean that they are out of the running for Colon's services. If the Yankees had a rotation of Mussina, Vasquez, Pettitte, Colon, and whoever, then I will be concerned, but not with what they have now. I'll take Pedro, Schill, and D-Lowe any day over what they have, unless they have Mussina, Vasquez, Colon, AND Pettitte.
Yanks = vomit It's like their own roto league, but they have the first 5 picks every year. Once again, the Yanks make all baseball fans sick. Schilling is risky as well. He's just the next guy in the long line of Sox free agent player's who are past their prime. Dawson, Clark, Reardon, etc.
With George.........that is still an option. BTW.........Now that you guys have Schill, any word on what else Theo has planned next? He'd better have someone else to go after cause everyone knows George isnt going to stand pat with this. I guess we'll be seein you guys in October..............this should be fun..........for us Yankee fans that is.
tigereye, Theo's next big target is Foulke although the recent signing of LaTroy Hawkins could hurt Boston because Oakland was looking at using him to replace Foulke. This means that Billy Beane could really step up his efforts to bring Foulke back. Another option was Eddie Guardado of the Twins, but with Eric Milton being traded to the Phillies, it looks like the Twins will have enough money to re-sign him. If Theo loses out on Foulke, then he can try Kim or Williamson although I would prefer the latter. Of course, there is talk about trading Manny to Texas for A-Rod and as a result trading Nomar to the Angels. Doubt that would happen, but then again I never thought we would get Schill. Other rumours include that Boston was interested in Andy Pettitte, but that is probably over now. Also, they may try to sign Rich Aurilia of the Giants and move him to 3B and move Bill Mueller to 2B. But whatever happens, you can be rest assured, tigereye, that Theo will make some more moves. They might not be the headlining ones or glitzy ones like Steinbrenner likes to do, but they will be effective ones (read Ortiz, Millar, Mueller, etc).
The Evil Empire strikes back. Again. Freaking Yankees. Vazquez is on the cusp of greatness, and he could be that staff ace for the next 10 years. I think Schilling is an excellent addition to the Sox rotation, but the Vazquez move trumps Epstein here. I can't imagine the Yanks going after Brown with Vazquez in tow, but if they do, that all but assures that Pettitte comes to Houston. Brown makes a tidy sum next year.
I'd take Javier Vazquez over Pettitte any day of the week. He's younger, has better stuff, and is cheaper to sign.
Vasquez should win 20 as a Yankee. I think Brown still has the goods too. In my opinion that will be the best staff by far if it all plays out. But when it comes down to a seven game series. I agree that Boston will have the advantage.
You are correct Mr. MR From ESPN INSIDER: Dec. 3 - The A's reportedly have upped their offer to Foulke, adding not only a fourth season but also more money. The Boston Herald indicates Oakland's offer is for at least $24 million over four years, trumping Boston's offer of three years and $18 million. It is believed Foulke would prefer to stay in Oakland, and the new offer might make that happen. It remains unclear, however, if the A's will offer him arbitration if they don't complete a new deal by Sunday's deadline. If they do, they'll buy more time to complete a deal and guarantee themselves compensation if he chooses to sign elsewhere. I guess the Celtics aren't as big a draw since they traded Antoine (in reference to Theo taking Foulke to a recent game). The only thing that saddens me about Foulke re-signing (which is absolutely necessary) is more confirmation that Miggy won't be coming back. DAMN ALL YOU TEAMS WITH MONEY TO SPEND AND OWNERS WILLING TO SPEND IT! Even though I shudder at the thought of Jason Giambi playing first base everyday, I have to applaud the acquisition of Vazquez.
this is terrible...now schill and vaz are gone from my fantasy league team. NL-only, 26 players, 13 teams, and pitchers who don't walk people are very valuable. i think i am going to cry.
Yo manny... no worries man, Vasquez cost them Nick Johnson, who is their best young player, not beside soriano, all their players are old, and Giambi will have to play defense. In the end this is not a good deal for them. Here what we need to do. Trade Manny for A-Rod, trade Nomar for Kevin Brown, Guillermo Mota and prospects, then get Kaz Masui from Japan to play 2nd base. Your thoughts? Do you think we should keep Manny?
Well, yipeng, you may have read this but the Boston Globe was saying a couple of days ago that the Sox are interested in Rich Aurilia of the Giants. They want to move him to 3B and move Mueller to 2B. Rich didn't have the best of seasons last year when it comes to OPS but he has had solid seasons in terms of OPS in the past. I would definitely like to see A-Rod come for Manny, but I will pass on Kevin Brown. Not only is he older than Schill, but he is also due to make $15 million. Our rotation is set anyway with Pedro, Schill, D-Lowe, Wakefield, and doesn't matter (will probably be Bronson Arroyo) in the 5th spot. Kaz intrigues me but I will be surprised if they go after him; I am hearing that either the Dodgers or Mariners will sign him. Mota may not be bad, but I still hope we can get Foulke but as derrock pointed out, LaTroy Hawkins signing with (can't remember who) his new team (wasn't Oakland) hurts us as Beane can offer Foulke a better contract in terms of years and money. If we can get Foulke, A-Rod, and Aurilia, I think that would be more than enough to make us as good or better than last year.
I agree with that, but if we get A-Rod, we HAVE to move Nomar. Otherwise what do you do with him? You can't slap him in the face and make him switch positions. I don't read the globe that much. I don't like Rich Aurilia. We should really try to get Kaz Matsui instead. Japanese baseball players are like serbian basketball players, no scrubs man. Except Shinjo (who I like anyway) and Irabu. Wakefield is good, but Kevin Brown is a soldier, if he ever regains his pre-injury form, we'd have the four aces factor.
