http://www.variety.com/VR1117989455.html MGM to reboot 'Robocop' franchise Darren Aronofsky to direct new installment By TATIANA SIEGEL Darren Aronofsky has signed on to direct and David Self is penning a new installment about the hero whose tagline is "part man, part machine and all cop." "RoboCop," which is being fast-tracked for a 2010 release, becomes the first potential tentpole to come together since Mary Parent took the reins of MGM in March. Aronofsky's involvement has been one of the worst kept secrets, with rumors rampant in the blogosphere that "The Fountain" helmer was eyeing the project. MGM is keeping the logline under wraps, but insiders say it will take the sci-fi vigilante classic in more of a noir direction. Phoenix Pictures' Mike Medavoy, who produced the original film for Orion 21 years ago, is producing the new "RoboCop" alongside Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and David Thwaites. Original films centered on a fatally wounded cop who returns to the police force as a powerful cyborg haunted by submerged memories. After 1987's "RoboCop" and its two sequels hit the bigscreen, they have become solid earners for MGM's film library, with 4.1 million DVDs sold. Franchise is particularly popular in Japan, Germany and the U.K. Aronofsky ("Pi," "Requiem for a Dream") is finishing the feature "The Wrestler," which stars Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood. Self, whose credits include "13 Days" and "Road to Perdition," has "God of War" set up at Universal, with Brett Ratner attached to direct. He also penned U's "Wolfman," which is in production. Phoenix, whose recent credits include "Zodiac," is in production on the Mikael Halfstrom-helmed "Shanghai" and is in post-production on "Shutter Island," which teams Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. MGM recently greenlit thriller "The Cabin in the Woods," penned by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, with Goddard signed to make his directorial debut and Whedon producing.
Pre-existing awareness. Not a pre-existing audience. The $10 million gross of Robocop 3 shows that people won't necessarily just go to a Robocop movie because it's a Robocop movie. And that was when the franchise was still moderately relevant.
one of the most underrated theme songs of all time...love the low brass <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XW_nScqyLrE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XW_nScqyLrE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
the second one sucked too (i give it one star cause it was filmed in beloved htown) however, this is awesome. hey look what happened to batman, they made tons of crap movies. now they are resetting star trek and doing another terminator. Clutch will go see this movie! ps.. I want Christian Bale to play Alex Murphy. I think he has the voice.
Spread too thin with the new Terminator coming out. I wouldn't care about this if it wasn't Aronofsky doing it. That alone has me very interested.
1. I hope its rated R and is violent as the first one 2. I really enjoyed the imagery of the Fountain, so I think the movie will look good 3. they better keep the freaking music!
From what I've heard it's going to be a sequel set thirty years later in LA...not Detroit. But the thing that bother's me about this article...has nothing to do with Robocop. Maybe I had heard it before but wasn't paying much attention, but Ratner doing God of War?! Wtf no!

What is wrong with Aronofsky lately? He's making movies about wrestlers and a RoboCop remake? WTF! I want Pi squared or The Fountain 2: Tree of Death...
Although it is the 3rd entry in the Star Trek movie series, Search For Spock is really the 2nd act of the Genesis Trilogy. II, III, and IV told their own 3-part story within the series. As far as Robocop Rebooted is concerned, is this a sequel or are they starting over from scratch? I hope they don't just remake the original. No one will ever top Kurtwood Smith's Clarence Boddicker. "See, I got this problem. Cops don't like me. So I don't like cops." "B-tches, leave!" "Can you fly, Bobby?" "Just give me my f'ing phone call."
