If you ever wondered whatever happened to this guy, now ya know : ------------------------------- Grizzlies Sign Abdul-Rauf VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) —Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, the eight-year NBA veteran guard who sat out last season, signed with the Vancouver Grizzlies on Saturday. ``I'm extremely excited about adding to our guard core, a player of Mahmoud's accomplishments,'' said Dick Versace, the Grizzlies' president of basketball operations. Abdul-Rauf, 31, who refused in 1996 to stand for the national anthem while with the Denver Nuggets, averaged 15.2 points and 3.7 assists in eight seasons with Denver and Sacramento. He retired after playing in Turkey in 1998-99. The former LSU star has shot 90.9 percent from the free-throw line during his NBA career. ------------------ Just shut up and post

No kidding. However, he is possibly the worst defender in the league. He'll score 20, and allow 25. ------------------ Nuggets4 The Pinnacle - Rising to the Top With the Denver Nuggets http://www.NugsPinnacle.com

Supposably MAR contacted Versace about joining the team rather than the other way around. As a Vancouverite and watching his media session with the press it appears that he approached the Grizz because of his friendship with SAR (Shareef Abdur-Rahim). MAR said that he has know MAR since they were both children. Mahmoud went on to say that his game is still there as he shoots everyday and has been playing alot rescently but he will need to work on his conditioning. He then went on to say that he wanted to come to Vancouver to provide a little veteran leadership and because he know knew his place in the NBA and was more than happy to come off the bench and provide whatever spark he could. Only problem is Vancouver now has 4 PGS on the roster and that ugly contract of Brent Prices looks like it will be sitting on the IR for the next 3 years. Another reason why the Francis trade was great for Houston. PPunk ------------------
