I don't get it, was Vancouver not in a position to make ANY trade (picks wise) before the deadline last night. Or was this the case that no one offered a descent enough deal to Van, so they just suck it up and pass next year's (or the year after) pick to Detroit? I'm pretty sure Van is going to be in the lottery again next year. Are they going to start tanking games (to ensure they are in the top 6) in the later part of the season once they realize that they have no chance at the playoffs? How pissed are the Van/Memphis fans now? I guess Van wouldn't care since the team is leaving. ------------------ Congratulations Bill!!!! Past the trade deadline for the current season. Is there an exception for trading draft picks? The Orlando and Houston trade hasn't happened, yet, even though its agreed on and everyone knows about it. The Detroit-Orlando trade hasn't happened either. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/transactions The trade between the Rockets and Vancouver happened before the trading deadline and conveying the pick would only be settling a debt. Agreeing on a trade for the #17 on August 1st (When trading starts again I think) wouldn't help them. ------------------
You have to feel a little sorry for Vancouver. They were in a no win situation, because of Stu Jackson's agreement. Every team knew that they were desperate to acquire a pick & either wouldn't deal or probably asked for too much in exchange. Detroit, on the other hand was very shrewd with the manuevering that they did. If I were Vancouver, I'd be pissed at Detroit & would be looking for some sweet revenge. I agree that if their record sucks again next year, that they'll start tanking games late in the season. All they have to do is have the second worst record. I'm hoping that they can get the right talent & coaching staff to turn the team around & actually make the playoffs in the final year of the obligation to screw Detroit over(I've got a weak spot for the under dog). There's no reason (with the talent they currently have & what they'll acquire this year & next year in the draft plus any trades they might make) why they shouldn't be competitive enough in two years to make the playoffs. What do you think Rudy could do with that team as it is right now? I bet he'd have them in the playoffs within two years. ------------------
If Vancouver was really willing to give up #6 for #13, #18, and #22, I'd think the solution would not be too hard. The Rockets would convey #13 to Van and they'd convey it to Detroit. In return for the favor, Van would trade #6 for the #18 debt and our #22. Other picks could be thrown in to tweak it. The fact that that didn't happen suggests to me that Vancouver wouldn't have given up the #6 in the trade Sam Smith said would have gone down. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
