I've heard this guy mentioned on the board before. He obviously fits in well with Rockets - versatile on offense, rebounds, and can shoot the 3. Now, it seems NJ is looking to get rid of him. 4 questions: 1. Do the Rockets have any interest in him? 2. Can they put together a better package than the Jazz are offering? 3. Could he play the 3 for us? 4. Would you rather have him at the 4 over Mo Taylor? ------------------
Does anyone know what the how long the remainder of his contract is? The trade may not be very beneficial to us if his contract runs out next year. Other than than I think he would be a great pick up for us at the 3 spot. ------------------ "Hakeem Olajuwon dusted my butt", Shaq regarding Hakeem's play in the 95 Finals
I do not want Van Horn. The last thing the Rockets need is another big man who can't rebound or play D. ------------------
Is it me, or are some of these NBA players getting paid w-a-y too much money? $73M until 2006.....sheesh! ------------------ "...Do you hear 'em? They're everywhere!!! AAAHHH!!!" That's what the other teams will be saying after being shellshocked by Steve Francis and Co.
Every team has their overpaid non-contributor(Johnson, Van Horn, Hardaway, McIlvane). ------------------
According to nbatalk, the Jazz are willing to part with Donyell Marshall and Bryon Russell to acquire Van Horn. If this is true, I dont see how the Rockets will be able to put together a better package w/o losing any of the core talent ie. Mobley, Francis. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
If the Jazz traded Marshall and Russell for Van Horn... I'd consider them stupid as well as cheaters. I'm not sure he's worth more than EITHER of those player. Sure, if he's healthy he's probably SLIGHTLY better than either one, but not by much. ------------------ A few years back on the Senate floor... 1. Your guess is as good as mine, but if you pay any attention at all to the site, I'm sure you already know the answer. 2. I'm sure we could package something more attractive to NJ, but I don't know what. 3. I sure as hell hope so. I don't want him at the 4...I think he is STILL too soft. While I don't know how well he can defend 3's, he could definitely create matchup problems at the offensive end of the floor. 4. No. Van Horn has the same problem that a lot of Utes have had...the player reaches his peak, or near his full potential, in college. It speaks volumes on Majerus' coaching ability, but you don't see a guy go to the U and then blow up once he reaches the NBA. Is Van Horn really that much better in his fourth season than he was in his first or second, or even his last year in college? Andre Miller is a decent argument, but if you followed college basketball, especially in the WAC, or Mountain West, or whatever it's called now, Andre Miller was a DAMN good point guard, and I wasn't surprised at all with his success in the NBA. He was damn good in college. I just don't see him getting much BETTER, and the same goes for Van Horn. ------------------ Jazzkiller
if he can play the three and the Nets Would take cato of our hands and we could keep mo at the four I say lets trade for him but if we go after him we will not have enough cap room to go after Webber ------------------
There is NO WAY I'd take Van Corn.I don't see him helping us get to the finals, much less to the finals. If he is so good why are the Nets always near last place in the East. We already have 3 players like him in Collier, Bullard, and Langhi. In my O that is enough, way enough! ------------------
"For Van Horn or Marshall and Russel?" For Van Horn. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net [This message has been edited by MManal (edited June 06, 2001).]
Coming from New Jersey and watching a few of the Nets games, I hope the Nets trade him to rip someone off. I just don't hope they rip off the Rockets. Believe me, he'll get you the boards and the 3s, but for Russell and Marshall.....well.....no way. If I were the Jazz and I really wanted him, I'd give them next year's first rounder and Russell for Van Horn. Van Horn could prove to be helpful if he plays. Marshall IMO, is the team's most important player at this point. I think if the Rockets and Nets try for a trade, it would be something along the lines of- Van Horn and the #7 pick for Cato, #13 and #23 picks. The Nets would now need a little less help at the Center position and they could draft Jamaal Tinsley at #13 or Kenny Satterfield at #23 (I think Cook will go to a team in the mid-teens), and a Center at the position they do not select the point guard. Which would make Marbury now tradable. Now who would the Rockets select at #7? They already have their Pau Gasol so he's out of the question. After, Curry Griffin Battier Richardson Brown and Diop, now the choice is theirs. I have 2 Questions 1. Who do you think the Rockets would choose with the Number 7 pick? and 2. What do you think the Nets could get for a big-time PG like Marbury? [This message has been edited by NYKRule (edited June 06, 2001).]
For anyone who might want to compare, here are last year's stats for Van Horn and Taylor. I would give a slight edge to Van Horn, due to higher per game average (even with Marbury on the team...), and more boards per game. He also has better range. I also think that Langhi, given those kind of minutes, and shots could come close to those numbers... I don't want Van Horn, I have never really been impressed with him. The only way I would want to acquire him is with Cato, and Cato only(okay, throw in pick#23). But if we have to give up anyone else I wouldn't do it. ------------------ Now saw off...there's nothing to see here.
1. I don't know. I'm not sure I'd want him. He's not a great rebounder. 2. Possibly. How attached are you to Cuttino Mobley? 3. I think he could swing between 3 and 4 depending on who his defensive assignment is. Against SFs like Finley, we'd better have someone quicker. Against SFs like Walt Williams he'd do fine. 4. He doesn't seem like an upgrade on Mo Taylor. His rebounding is better but not fantastic. Has got more range perhaps but not a better jump-shooter. Just as weak in the blocks. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
1. Yes they did, whether that it is still an intense focus remains to be seen. Ask again just before or just after the draft. My guess is that it is still an active, on-going "tabled" discussion. 2. I think as far as what ammunition we have to placate New Jersey demands, the answer is Hell Yes! I think the key here is what role the Nets Draft pick will play in any negotiation involving unloading Van Horn. 3. I would hope he would play the three. That would be the most opportunistic spot for him. RT likes guys who can swing( No HeyP, not that kinda swing, man!!!) from 2 to 3, or 3 to 4. Van Horn as a Rocket could easily cause some matchup problems for our opponents.(IMHO: the Jazz would be one team that would have headaches with VanHorn switching out at 3, with MoTay/Webber at the 4) 4. No. Nuff said. ------------------
