Group's manager now says -- totally untrue By TMZ.COM STAFF (Feb. 13, 2:20PM ET) -- Will Van Halen be the next band to find a new lead singer on 'Rock Star: The Series'? The band's spokesperson "vehemently" denies it. Earlier, Larry Solters, a high-powered Hollywood publicist who reps Van Halen, told TMZ, "I'm not denying it. I'm not going to answer any questions about it." Today, Solters contacted TMZ and said in no way was he confirming the rumor that Van Halen was headed for 'Rock Star.' Last year, the band INXS used 'Rock Star' to find a new lead singer. J.D. Fortune won the competition, and the band is now making a comeback with a hit new album and a sold-out tour. As for Van Halen, the group has had three lead singers since it hit the scene back in 1978: David Lee Roth, who left the band in 1985, Sammy Hagar, who split in 1996, and Gary Cherone, who recorded just one album and toured with the band in 1998. The next season of 'Rock Star,' produced by Mark Burnett for CBS, is scheduled to air during the summer. Neither Burnett nor CBS would comment on the Van Halen buzz.
It wouldn't suprise me Thank God I have all their old stuff (DLR) and actually remember when they Rocked!!!!
Right. Back in the day, nothing was cooler than VH with DLR. They were my second concert... forgot the name of the hall in Houston, but we were 4th row center stage after buying four scalped tickets for a total of... wait for it... $84.00. That show rocked!
I saw Van Halen with Sammy the last time they played the Toyota Center. They absolutely sucked, and the problem wasn't Sammy. The problem was that Eddie was drunk off his rear. 20 minute guitar solos while Eddie is wasted are not a good thing. The show didn't start to be decent until an hour into it, when they started playing the hits. The first half was awful. The most expensive bad concert I've ever been to.
I did too. I'm not a big VH fan, but a friend had an extra ticket in a private suite at the Toyota Center, so I went. What a horrid, putrid show. When Eddie whipped out his power drill and started running it along the strings making weird noises, me and my friend gulped down our 5th free drink and split to a club. I guess I left before the "hits" came out, but neither of us cared since the ticket was free. Van Halen was an absolutely pathetic, sorry sight that night. I feel sorry for anyone who paid to see that crap.
The "new" INXS was on Leno, maybe it was Letterman, last night. I watched about :10 seconds and turned it to watch something else.
I saw Sammy and Wabaritas prior to the VH tour and they smoked the joint. I also heard that the Dave and Sammy tour got good reviews. This leads me to believe that EVH is the current problem. VH fans also remember how bringing in a random singer (Cherone) worked out. To boot, EVH needs a solid songwriter not just a good singer, if VH is going to release a new record, which is part of the Rock Star deal, right? All in all, this does not bode well for VH fans.
Tommy Lee looking for a lead singer? So much for the Van Halen rumors I guess. I can't see this having much appeal. http://www.motley.com/news/index.php?mode=full&news_id=411 TOMMY LEE Is The Next 'Rock Star' Blabbermouth | Email News Story According to MelodicRock.com, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has been in negotiations with the producers of the "Rock Star" show for the last few weeks to take on a star role in the revamped show format. The house band will be retained, with Tommy Lee taking the place of INXS searching for his next "Rock Star" lead vocalist. The winner will front Lee's next studio album and a tour (timing to be determined). Rumors over who would front the show following INXS' 2005 role have been widespread since the first season finale. After a suitable band could not be found, it was originally decided to gather a group of name musicians and search for a singer for a brand new band — until Lee stepped in, that is. An official announcement is expected within a day or two, but Lee gave this hint away as recently as this week in an interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch: Q: Any chance of another season of "Tommy Lee Goes to College" or are your academic days over? Tommy Lee: "In about two days you're gonna hear a statement about something new. I'm looking at the press release right now, but I can't tell you what it is." Q: Is it an NBC press release? Tommy Lee: "No, a different network." Q: But we'll be seeing you back on TV? Tommy Lee: "Absolutely."
It ain't real VH without either David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar. Either one is cool with me. I expecially like Sammy's solo stuff. That guy from Extreme (Gary Cherone) just didn't fit.
Paul Rodgers is the new Queen vocalists. I think that they have scheduled a US tour later this year? They (Paul Rodgers + Queen) did put out a DVD from their Europe tour, which is very solid.
Here is a video of Queen with Paul Rodgers singing "We Are The Champions" and "Tie Your Mother Down" http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8420876204610684862&q=queen
I don't think it's going to be just Tommy Lee. On the radio last night they said it would be several stars forming a "supergroup" and looking for a singer.
Honestly I thought Queen sounded pretty good with George Michael a few years back at the Freddie Mercury benefit deal....... Seriously......
Actually, I have to agree with you. Michael had a Mercury-esque tone to his voice, but it was still different enough so that is sounded fresh. Man, Paul Rodgers sounds like crap. Queen just needs to hang it up and retire. Same with VH: when you burn through three lead singers, maybe the singer ain't the problem.
