EDDIE VAN HALEN: The Ball Is In DAVE LEE ROTH's Court Dec. 11, 2006 Eddie Van Halen spoke to Guitar World magazine about the current status of VAN HALEN following the departures of vocalist Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony. Rumors continue to swirl that original singer David Lee Roth, who was replaced by Hagar in the mid-1980s, will return to the fold, despite years of enmity. Roth, who has recently worked as a radio DJ and a paramedic, told Billboard.com in May that he saw it "absolutely as an inevitability." "I'm telling Dave, 'Dude, get your ass up here and sing, b****! Come on!'" Eddie told Guitar World. "As it stands right now, the ball is in Dave's court. Whether he wants to rise to the ocassion is entirely up to him, but we're ready to go." Eddie has brought his 15-year-old son, Wolfgang, into VAN HALEN as the veteran rock band's new bass player. Father and son, along with Eddie's drummer brother Alex, have been rehearsing for a 2007 tour. "Wolfgang breathes new life into what we're doing," said Eddie. "He brings youthfulness to something that's inherently youthful. He's only been playing bass for three months, but it's spooky. He's locked tight and puts an incredible spin on our sh*t. The kid is kicking my ass! He's spanking me now, even though I never spanked him. To have my son follow in my footsteps on his own, without me pushing him into it, is the greatest feeling in the world."
I'd still watch. I wouldn't buy a new album though. I would like to see video of Wolfgang on the bass.
I'd give it a listen...as long as I dont have to pay for it until after I hear it. Even as weird as Eddie has been in recent years, he is still one helluva guitar player. I hate to break it to Eddie tho...I saw Dave come thru a couple years back...and he didnt look or sound good. His voice isnt what it was.....and even waht it was wasnt that great. His thing was being the prototypical rock frontman...and without the charisma he once had...he is Kevin DuBrow.
15 year old son on tour with Van Halen sounds like a great idea. On another note, I think they would be lucky to sell out the Verizon Center downtown.
Stop acting like you wouldn't cream yourselves over a VH reunion. Eddie and Dave are going to come to Live and kick all your asses.
hmmm...interesting granted, I havent heard Eddie play since that crappy album with that guy..his name doesnt come to memory at the moment...but he *has* undergone extensive chemo...so I guess it could have affected his dexterity. Davo, on the other hand, I saw touring with Sammy, and maybe it was just a bad day for him, but he sounded nasty and just looked plain goofy out there tryin to do leaps and stuff he doesnt have the ahtleticism for anymore. and still...I'd love for VH to come back..I loved that band almost as much as Maiden until they released 1984. Being a huge Montrose/Sammy fan previous to Dave leaving VH, I thought maybe Id really like the Van Hagar version...but all that did was diminish both Sammy and VH. and the lesss said about the abomination called VH3 the better.
i love van halen, so this at least could be interesting to see. i agree with 2k though, roth hasn't sounded good at all recently and he wasn't a great singer to begin with. the qualities that made him great didn't last over time.
uh...ok...I can't imagine but hey, more power to them...Wolfgang as a bassist...hmm..Well, as long as he can get some ass too...
Don't freak out guys, this happens every 3 years like clockwork. Guess it's time to set my watch again.
he has all the advantages needed to be able to excel...so as long as he has the desire to be good, he *should* be. The musician gene is strong in that family....his grandad was supposedly a pretty well-known musician himself (he was the clarinet player featured in the Big Bad Bill song), and his dad and uncle are both (or used to be) talented musicians...he has had access to the very best in equipment and teachers....and honestly guys...trust me on this cause I play a bit of rock bass...bassist in a rock band aint that damn hard.....lets see him play some jazz or funk to get the true measure of him as a bassist.
Hmm paramedic or Lead singer of a rock goup band that probably can still attract some groupies hmmm don't know pretty tough call..

I thought after this bluegrass monstrosity that I would never see DLR-VH speculation again.
