"mobely is making plays for his team" now how true is that!!!! i love the rockets and mainly francis but mobley is messing things up. he has talent no doubt especially for the 41th pick in the draft but he messes "the flow" up win he tries to be the man when he needs to be a role player. when mobley understands "role playing" ill support his shooting descisons. until later GO ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was actually more impressed with Van Gundy's comments about Glen Rice (i.e. "If Glen were 100% he'd be playing lock-down defense on Michael Finley"). Considering all the 'bad vibes' that came about from Rice's NYC days, this suprised me. Also, his "school-girl giddiness" when it comes to Yao Ming is bordering on disturbing. All in all, it's clear to me that Van Gundy respects the Rockets.
What more do you want Mobley to do? He had 4 assist and 6 rebounds against Dallas when he struggled scoring and only had 2 turnovers. 4 assist, I would say he is setting up his teammates. He is averaging 4 assist per game the last 4 or 5 games, and the average 2-guards apg is 4.
I agree, it's a good sign that he only took 8 shots and that he had 4 assists. Let's not bash Cat too much now.
Mobley going 0-8 doesn't bother me. We all know he can shoot. What did bother me, is that he was forcing shots out of the offensive framework. He didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the team.
I do to, Mobley seems to be making a conscious effort to be the #3 scorer but people have to be patient because he him being the #3 option and Ming jumping to the #1 or #2 option isn't going to happen over night. There were people a bit upset he only took 9 shots against Phoenix, and he really didn't take a lot of shots against the Cavs until they needed him to and he scored 12 points in the 4th. In fact I believe Mobley only had 6 shots going into the 4th against the Cavs so he isn't gunning shots and ball-hog. Haven I think he was forcing shots a bit because he was trying to help the team. The team wasn't scoring, people were having an off night, and being the #2 option for most of his career here it's natural to want to step up and try to help the team. Francis even looked out of rhythm with the rest of the team, as his 8 for 20 shows. It's going to take time for all the pieces to fit properly.
Truer words were never written. This team has incredible depth, but that's only b/c we play Kenny Thomas, Cuttino Mobley and Moochie Norris too much. BTW, I'm actually impressed with Maurice Taylor. I never thought that I'd actually write those words... but he fits into a bigger/enjoyable picture.
I agree with Rocksmillenium cuttino is not just missing shots because of a bad shooting night he's missing shots because he is taking bad ones. He is also not finishing around the basket he seems to be affected bby not having the ball in his hands as much. the zone defense did not help but Cuttino right now seems to be trying to learn how to be just as affective with less field goal attempts, when he does learn I think we possibly win a game against the Dallas Mavericks who had no answer for Yao, not even Raef.
Cat had an off night. He will adjust to the new opitons the Rockets have on offense. I still would like to know when Nachbar will get a chance to play more over Rice's minutes?? Does anyone know when TMO will be back?? \m/
CAT sucks, plain sucks. I don't care what the fxxk Van has to say about CAT. His basketball IQ is below average. He couldn't read the damn play and couldn't pass the damn balls.
My first T.V. game of the season. Observations: Ming IS the next big thing. Whoa, when this guy gets physically conditioned to the NBA (He obviously ran out of gas) he will dominate. However, our guards look a lot like last year. They seem out of sync, like they don't know what to do. They don't take care of the ball, really stupid turn overs. They force shots. Overall, much more motion, ball movement. Rice looked much better, and Taylor looked relatively fit. What happened to Griffin, he was a factor early and then disappeared? I like Hawkins, he seems to give the team energy. We have a long way to go on defense. The Mavs got so many open looks. And boy can they shoot!
Cat's basketball IQ is below average, but the Rockets can still use him. Remember Vernon Maxwell? He took a ton of bad shots, but when he was open he would nail a bunch of them. The Knicks used to win with John Starks. Now that Ming is going to be attracting double teams, Mobley needs to adjust his game, and it could end up being good for the team.
He got 4 assists, if you could read that then you would understand that "Cat doesn't pass the damn ball" is getting old now. Can you give me one example of a play that Cat didn't read? Don't you get sick of bashing all the time?
There was a point in the second half when the Mavs had scored 8 stright points to stretch a small lead to a significant one. Francis comes across mid-court with the ball, takes 2 or 3 more dribbles and mis-fires up a long 3-pointer. The color commentator mumbles about how that shot seemed kind of "rushed." You don't fire off crappy shots to steal momentum. You have to stop the momentum first with any kind of score you can get. Steve Nash is brilliant.
Now that Yao will command double and triple teams, we need shooters and slashers outside, not dribblers. I think Nachbar and Rice should be on the floor more with Yao. Mobes and Mooch just make the game hard?
Mobley took 8 shots! 8 freakin shots! How is that messing up the flow of the game? All this passiveness by Mobley is starting to make me nervous. Look at the bottom line, Mobes takes 8 shots and we lose. Mobes takes 3 shots in the second half against Phx. and we lose, think about it jlaw. He had a off night but grabbed 6 boards and had 3 or 4 assists, he did contribute to the team as best he could last night.
