I read that the knicks have high interest in "speedy" Claxton....and if they are able to sign him, they will buy out Wards contract...making him available to sign...because we have lost out on Daniels and Piatkowski.......also Juaquins Hawkins will most likely remain a Rocket..........to bad we cant cut coochie norris. LOL
Charlie Ward puts up decent backup PG number, imo. But there's got to be a way to get rid of Moochie, then.
I love the idea of Charlie Ward at our backup PG. !!!!!!!! if we can move Franchise to the 2 and Ward at PG........ in my opinion, great backcourt for the Rocks...... Posey at the 3........ better defense then we have had........ Franchise vs Ward = Ward better Defense Cuttino vs Franchise = Franchise better Defense Posey = good defense DAMN WE NEED A GOOD VETERAN PF THANK GOD FOR YAO
If you think Steve Francis's defense is better then Cat's you are plain stupid. I am not trashing Steve (well maybe I am). I love the guy, but he plays as much defense as I do from my seats while watching the game.
Maybe Charlie Ward can come over and sign as a FA for the Texans. Heck, his basketball career isn't going so well, so why not take a chance on him coming over to throw the pigskin. Maybe we can get a 1st round draft pick for him to a team in need of a QB. Wait ... oops, I got my "former college quarterbacks coming to play in Houston" guys confused.
I am down with that. Ward has no mid-range but he had a good year from 3-pt (38%, 101 three pointers), his assist-to-turnover is excellent (7th in the league), he's unselfish, plus he plays defense and hustles. He is better than Moochie in absolutely every category. If the Knicks cut him loose I say go after him. He may be a better solution than Ollie in fact. The problem is, I think Les Alexander is a jew and will never allow him on the team. Also, who knows the guy may hate Chinese as well, he is somewhat wierd, you know...
Ehhh....? Whats so funny abou that? Charlie Ward is the one that cussed out NY because of its large Jewish population.
Cuttino defense is 10 times better than Franchise defense. Mo Taylor knows a good defense, better than griffin sure. And we haven´t a buckup for Posey with good defense. So we must sign someone or let Boki play (not RIce)

The only way I would consider getting Ward is for the veteran's minimum and a short contract, but even that I am not sure about. I think it might be beneficial to have one PG who knows JVG's system/coaching style, but is he that much of an upgrade over Moochie? I dunno. Moochie had a horrible year last year, but he did play decently well before the contract and maybe JVG can light some fire into him. I wouldn't get Ward though if it pushes us into luxury tax land.
According to the New York Post, this might happen. http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/37934.htm KNICKS MIGHT SWAP WARD FOR HARRINGTON By MARC BERMAN -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- July 18, 2003 -- BOSTON - With sign-and-trade talks for Indiana center Brad Miller not going anywhere, Knicks GM Scott Layden has had conversations with the Pacers about a deal for small forward Al Harrington that would send Charlie Ward to Indiana, sources say. While the Knicks' No. 1 goal is to obtain a center, Layden hasn't given up trying to add size at the small-forward position, which is why Keith Van Horn continues to be a target. Last night, two GMs at the Boston summer league said they thought the Knicks and Sixers had struck a deal but both clubs firmly denied it. "There's been a lot of activity," said Layden, who walked out of the gym with Sixers GM Billy King before last night's Knicks game, spending 10 minutes in the parking lot. Harrington, a New Jersey native, lost his "base-year compensation" tag on July 1 and is now able to be traded without the Pacers and Knicks needing a third team to make the deal work mathematically. Sources said the Sixers and Knicks need a third team to make a deal work, as Philly doesn't have interest in Latrell Sprewell. If the Knicks give up Kurt Thomas in a package, they'd want Van Horn and another big man back. A Van Horn-for-Thomas trade would make the Knicks smaller, not bigger. King told a reporter the Knicks haven't offered them Thomas. The Pacers desperately are shopping for a point guard especially now that Erick Strickland has left for Milwaukee and Jamaal Tinsley has leveled off. The 6-9 Harrington is expendable because the Pacers have a lot of swingmen - Ron Artest, Ron Mercer, even Jonathan Bender. The contracts work out perfectly, with Harrington making $5.6M and Ward $6.2M. Frank Williams' strong summer league has given Layden more leeway in moving Ward. Harrington, who last season averaged 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds, would give the Knicks a much-needed defensive stopper and size at the "3." Sprewell, a natural shooting guard playing out of position, is a good defender but often is overmatched by bigger small forwards. That is why Layden still likes the idea of trading Sprewell for either Van Horn or San Antonio's Manu Ginobili, small-forward types with size. Layden never lost interest in Van Horn despite a deal breaking down at the trading deadline and has continued heavy dialogue with the Sixers. Yesterday, Spurs GM Gregg Popovich said he's not trading Ginobili. While the Pacers like Ward a lot, they would need a little more than just the veteran point guard to get it done. The Pacers would like the Knicks to take on the contract of power forward Austin Croshere, who has four years and $35 million left. However, the Knicks would have to return excess baggage to make the salaries work. Meanwhile, Layden, looking for a center, contacted the reps for Elden Campbell yesterday. Campbell is looking for the full $4.9 million mid-level exception and that is likely too high a price for the Knicks. The Knicks are a whole lot more interested in Hawks center Theo Ratliff.
Wow, let me count the ways! You would rather have a backcourt of Ward and Francis over Francis and Mobley!? No way. Francis has better D then Mobley? I love Steve, but he plays, what I like to call "El Matador" defense. His defense, especially perimeter D, is non-existant. Ward is good for bench help, no way that guy should be in our starting line-up in any way, shape or form if we plan to make the playoffs next year.
I read that NY Post article today. Laughed my ass off! Charlie Ward for Al Harrington? HA HA HA. No WAY would Indiana (even as starved as they are for a PG) would even think about trading Harrington for Ward! Harrington is a really good player and is starting to come into his own as a spark plug off the bench. Good 6th man candidate. Ward is just an overpaid average backup PG. Nothing more. Clearly this is wishful thinking on the part of the NY Post. What's new?
You must be sick.Leave Francis where he is.Your not the coach so you cant make the calls. If you where then it's cool. But for right now Let Jeff Van Gundy run the team from the sidlones and you stay on the sidelines.......sup man............
Yea, when I read the article I thought the same. But I already learned not to believe much of anything the New York post says. I should have added one of these ( ) next to it.
