Let me start off by saying, I was pretty disappointed to read the following quote by Van Gundy in the chronicle today:

    Rockets Failing to Mesh

"Certainly if the results don't change, we'll need to change either who plays or who's here," Van Gundy said. "Because one thing you don't want to get used to is mediocrity."

    (Link: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/291935)

    1) I just can't see how anyone can mesh offensively in Van Gundy's system. Could you imagine Van Gundy trying to coach a team like Phoenix or Dallas? Or worse yet, trying to get the present Indiana team to win a game? The problem is that he has only 1 offensive coaching style, that does not adjust to the talent he is given. I firmly believe, that if he was coaching an all-star game, the West would have a difficult time breaking the 100 point barrier.

    2) Van Gundy is a good defensive coach, and all his teams seem to mesh defensively and play hard every night. But, given that his offensive woes balance out his defensive savvy, if anything I would say that the coach is closest to the definition of mediocrity.

    3) Another example, is that Francis and Mobley (even though he is injured) seem to have no problem adjusting to a new system in Orlando. At some point you have to think maybe it is not the players, but the system.

    4) In conlcusion, I guess I would have just been happier had he said "we'll need to change either who plays, who's here, or who coaches." It's about time he took some responsibility for this.

We should try to hire don nelson's son, or perhaps Kevin Gilbride.

The first game with Gilbride would go like this. Near the end of the game somone throws a cup of ice at him and then runs out of the stands and decks him with all hell breaking loose. In video replays they see its Buddy Ryan.

    ;)

Seriously though I've been saying the same thing for awhile but considering the Rockets have been scoring over 90 the past few games it looks like their offense is clicking, at least through the first 3 and a half quarters.

Unfortunately the Rox have gone back to "Choke City" form and I'm not convinced JVG is the guy who can lead them out of it.
