Here is an interview that I heard today on the local sports station here in NYC. If you are a Gundy fan, you won't like the interview because he is rather blunt, honest, straight to the point and critical. If you are a Gundy fan like I am you like the interview. Simple as that. There is one point in the interview where he says something to the effect of "I know what it takes to win in the playoffs. I am rather unflexible to the style of play I want" That right there will drive the Gundy haters over the edge. You need RealAudio to listen. Enjoy. http://wfan.com/homepage/local_audioclip_106185240.html
Sorry, I meant if you AREN'T a Gundy fan, you won't like the interview. I must admit. The man sounds like he needs some sleep and some... Never mind.
No, either way you'll like the interview. If you don't like him, you'll like the interview because it gives you a chance to bash him. If you like him, you'll like the interview because it gives you a chance to say something positive about him. And if you don't like my post, it'll give you a chance to bash me. If you like my post, it'll give you a chance to give me prop. Now what am I talking about?
Great interview, and regarding the part when the interviewer asked about guys that were "buying into the system". If you listen to JVG, you can tell that he is really taking a wait and see attitude with his players. It sounds like some of the guys really have to show him something in the playoffs or they could be gone.
"not even close" -- JVG says that about everything. I love how he has great things to say about everyone except for the guys on his own team. I know he's not always negative. When he was with the Knicks, he said good things about Spree, Ward, and Pat all the time. He must think our guys are lazy.
if you're a player for ole grumpy yah gottah invest in high profile PR professionals. in JVG's world where nothing is "close" the proximity of a NY mike ain't ever too far away. afer all, if you're gonna rag out your players, where better than the media capital of the world? psst Stevie ... high profile NY type PR ...
Thanks Almu, really enjoyed listening. Would like to point out at least one thing JVG said, "Tony Parker isn't a good point guard, he is a great point guard." I got laughed and ridiculed off the board last year for making the same remark. Trust me, I know NBA talent when I see it, I know a point guard when I see one, and I want to see a "Parker-like" point guard on the Rockets next season.
I'll chime in with the rest of these guys. This is a GREAT interview. I don't know about anyone else, but I enjoy listening to JVG discuss basketball. Really candid and open interview. Thanks for posting it Almoooooo.
Terrific interview. Thanks, Almu. This stuff is mesmerizing --- it's 2:30 and I'm dead tired but I couldn't stop listening. Van Gundy's intelligence, knowledge, sincerity, and passion for the game really comes through. I love the guy.
