In Vegas this past weekend, at the Bellagio, low and behold who do I see...Gabrielle Reese and Jeff Van Gundy (not together, of course). I watched the former coach and nba wrestling federation superstar, meticulously seek out a blackjack table and sit. Curiously he sat at a 10 dollar table, when there were higher stakes tables nearby. He looked like he knew his cards and I was eagar to peep game, so I left my lovely carribean stud dealer to sit at the table with the former coach. I was eyeballed by what may have been a few eager New Yorkers for the seat, but was not intimidated, hell, I'm a 'member'. As I sat, I saw Van Gundy hit a 16 with a 3 up, I was then convinced that I could learn nothing from him of the game at hand so I'd pick my spot to ask about our rookie center. I painfully watched bad play after play, some for winners and some not, until an eager fan passed by and yelled, "Hey, it's freakin Jeff Van Gundy". As he and other fans started him talking, I sat back like Wolf Blitzer, joined the catechism, and intelligently blurted out, "How bout' Ming?" Well I'm not Blitzer, and though not Fleicher, he responded rather diplomatically, "Ming is interesting" the dealer yelled," Insurance", Van Gundy continued, "The league has known about him for a while and I just wonder why all the attention now". My follow up... "Can he compete on the NBA level"? "Sure, but don't look for any miracles for a few years, but he is a very smart player". "21"! DAMN!!!!! I'll admit, it wasn't the Zapruder tape, but it is good to know that as least he though favorably of Ming. But then again who would trust a guy that would hit a 16 with a 3 showing.
He hit a 16 with a three showing? That makes trading for Rice when you already got Sprewell and Houston not look so bad.
Dude, you saw van gundy and gabrielle reece and you decided to follow van gundy? You must REALLY be into basketball.....
Anotherbrother - Have you ever played houston? I thought I saw you at a club, of course I could be crazy.
AB...great job I'll say this...for Van Gundy to have anything positive to say about a foriegn player is pretty rare. He never thought much of foriegn players when he was coaching NY...in fact, when the Knicks drafted Fredrick Weis, it was a huge bone of contention between he and the Knicks front office. PS...AB, how AWESOME is the Bellagio? I've been fortunate to stay in some great places but IMO, the Bellagio takes the cake.
Billy D! You're really funny. It's great to catch you on this site. Say...you wouldn't know what T Shawn Shannon is up to, btw? I look forward to more of your witty insight. Share some sport humor every now and then. What kind of plays are you looking for, next year? Best wishes, p

Say...you wouldn't know what T Shawn Shannon is up to, btw? I can help out on this one. T. Sean has been a writer on Saturday Night Live for the last 3 or 4 years. Prior to that he was writing for Jay Leno. Before that he wrote for Vibe (Sinbad was hosting), the short lived Magic Johnson talk show, House of Buggin' (John Leguizamo ) and In Living Color. Sean received his first Emmy nomination last year, although he didn't win. He doesn't do much standup nowdays, but he does still do the annual Shannon Brothers Christmas show at the Laff Stop.
Another Brother, If you ever come to Austin I'd like to see your show. drop me a quick email @ brimgrahamfilms@yahoo.com
If I had been sitting at that table, I'd have shouted at JVG "Dont fxxking srew up the table, let dealer bust himself, dont take that freaking face card."
