From the SportsRadio 610 News Room... Friday, February 6, 2:30 P.M. . Rockets coach jeff Van Gundy cut his team's shoot-around short this morning, but refused to detail why he decided to send his players home after only 20 minutes of practice. Van Gundy is requiring the team to return to Toyota Center prior to the Bulls game tonight for a walk-through. I hope nothing worse happened. It seems like everyday things are building up more and more and becoming worse.
That's the absurd thing about it all. What are teh Rockets now, 27-21? I could understand all of these histrionics (by both Van Gundy AND the players) if they were 21-27 and out of the playoffs, but come on. I think Van Gundy's fuse is too short; I don't think he makes it through 2 years of coaching here, I think he'll burnout and quit at some point before then.
Might mean something...might mean nothing. Given the current climate, it might justify leaning towards "something", but I wouldn't call it conclusive.
His philosophy probably is...If anything goes bad, YOU did it. If anything goes semi-good, we did it. If anything goes really good, then I did it...
He told his players to go home after coming up to practice for only 20 mins. and you guys think nothing 'unusual' happened? Cmon. Hell, it probably took the guys longer to GET to practice than to actually practice.
Let's not go crazy and see news where there are none...shorter shoot-around...so what... Hmm...okay...after reading Severe Rockets Fan's post...it is strange, that's true.
Maybe JVG wants to quit the team in the middle of a season like he did a couple of years ago to the Knicks.
Bill Parcels walked out of practice this summer. It is a way to get your point across, if you are not doing it the right way, or you are not going to listen, you might as well go home. I guarantee JVG is about to grab this team by the throat, and those that can not take it will be gone. DD
Very good point... anyone who's living or has lived in Houston knows that it takes at least 20 minutes to get anywhere, unless you're going to the corner 7/11. Yes, he may have done something to shake the team up by reading them the riot act, but they just came off a win. How does that add up? He could have made a little speech and "rewarded" them with cutting the practice short, but does this sound like Van Gundy? I lean towards the World War III possibility... major blowup.
JVG is a coward Frankly, I dont know what pisses me off more: The players that are definetly underachieving or the weird moves JVG makes
Whatever Rudy T was doing wasn't working. JVG being somewhat nice in the first half of the year wasn't working either. Still too much lazyness and selfishness and lack of focus. So now comes the real JVG. Mess with the bull and you get the horns.
