Giff: If you had one comment to your players for this season, what would it be? Gundy: If they ever got here and started working out, they'd find out. Just great. We need some players who give a ****.
Wow, the dude doesn't sound happy. What gives? Everyone on Wheel of Fortune and in "Pad of the Month" magazine? They're not bustin' it at Westside? Interesting. He say anything else? Thanks.
We know Steve and Moochie are hanging out in the hood back home. They like to talk a good game of being committed to winning, but they are nowhere to be found when the new coach hits town. In my view, that is not being responsible or committed. Steve gets a pop to over 10 mil this season. He should be here, and his failure to be here is weak. He's a disappointment AGAIN.
It's about time we get hard on these players! Ain't no pulling back! If they really want to win then lets see what they can do!
man, jvg will completely turnaround this ballclub 180 degrees!!! this is the coach that we really need to be successful!!! the training camp aint started yet and jvg is starting already!! i like this alot! and he even is open for the players to come work out for him even before the camp start! keep up the great work jvg!
Is it what we need? Yes. Does that mean it will be a success? Nope. I hope not, but this could be one of those scenarios which turns out to hinge on how much real long term support the coach has within the organization. I am not saying that this little comment leads to that conclusion, just saying 'could'... But it's also naive to assume that what should work in theory will certainly work in practice. To paraphrase another basketball savant, albeit in a different context, ' It's just practice, man, practice.'
I was waiting for someone to quote Iverson. Guess who took "practice" seriously? Jordan. Guess who took "practice" lightly? Iverson. What will Francis do? Mobley? Griffin? Later in his career, Jordan's practices were more rigorous than his games. That's why he was ready game time.
David, you do realize that my quote was a play on the word practice, right, and not meant to advocate Iverson's position as it applies to this team? I just thought it was a topical play given the subject and my contention of the disparity between theory and practice. I am not among those who don't see the value of practice.
What a way to start a great relationship with your players... Funny how the players never had any problems working hard in the off season for Rudy... Okay I'll give the guy a break... Afterall they are professionals making a great living playing a game... But I personally believe comments like JVG made or better said behind closed doors and certainly not to the media even before the season has begun... It sounds like he is already trying to cover his ass... Only time will tell...
since when did the players do anything for Rudy in the summer? I don't remember any of them doing that in recent years. Not Cato, or Griffin, or Steve, or Moochie, or Mo. They all don't show up until camp.
I totally disagree. The players never worked out for Rudy during the offseason. Sure Cat, Steve and Mooch would play pickup games but nothing organized and certainly not with Rudy. I like that he's taking it to the press. Hell, let him take out a damn billboard if thats what it will take to get these bums motivated. We have a new offense and a new defense to install this offseason, time to get their asses to work.
I was just thinking about the Iverson news conference thing right before you posted it. It was just kinda tacky how AI keep saying, "Practice?!" "Practice?!" "Practice!?" It was almost like a college student saying, "Study?!" "Study?!" "Me? Study?"
